Stuff happens but given how well some guys played on Friday and in the no-hitter I can't help but wonder if Schwarber and Harper should have nursed their wounds for a couple of days.

Go get a win in Toronto and then beat up on the Nats again hopefully.

Yes, the home plate ump was pretty bad, but the hitters still have to adjust and get some runs.

Stubbs smoked the ball but right at the first baseman for the unassisted double play. The baseball gods telling us that the Phillies were not meant to win today. So they drop the series to the Twins and return to 11 over .500, still in good wild card position.

Sure would be nice to win two in Toronto, but that is not an easy task. I guess we are throwing Wheeler and Nola against the Blue Jays. Should be fun.

Frankly, this Twins series concerned me as a potential "trap" series. Getaway series/games at the end of a long and otherwise good homestand, decent opponent and the Phillies coming off multiple highs both in terms of performance (5-2 against Royals and Nationals, blowout win Friday night) and several emotional highs (phanbase rallying around Turner who seemingly responds, Lorenzen's no-hitter, Wilson homering in his debut at-bat, Casty's 200th career homer, Alumni Weekend as players got to rub elbows with Phillies luminaries). Surprisingly or perhaps not surprisingly, the Phillies end what could have been a rousing homestand with a couple of duds in which they appeared completely lifeless.

Yeah, the part about the Twins being a decent opponent is also key I think. Weak division, but first-place team. And after last night, ahead of the Phillies in RD, even.

You still want to win a home series of course but I think you're right about all that stuff, and if they played seven times the Phillies probably still take it.

There’s been some egregious strike calls recently; the strike 3 call to Bohm wasn’t one of them, but it clearly was outside the strike zone and should have been ball 4. Obviously a momentum changer, as it killed a potential late inning rally for the Phillies. The home plate umps have been bad for both teams, not just the Phillies. Good teams overcome calls that don’t go their way. Need to regroup and break the losing streak on Tuesday against the Blue Jays. Wheeler against Kikuchi is a fairly even match up. Got to hope our right-handed lineup can come through against a decent LHP. So far, Castro hasn’t provided much right-handed pop to balance out the lineup. I’d keep Stott at 2B rather than assume Castro is going to provide dividends against LHP.

I haven’t cared for some of the lineups this week. Taking out two starters at a time for “rests” doesn’t do it for me. Then Harper and Marsh get hurt which complicates things even more. As we’ve seen, not everyone is a competent replacement at any position.

If I had to guess, he is the one that goes down instead of Wilson when Pache is back (which probably is this week since he played at AAA this weekend). Castro has already had his option used for the year so it can be pitched as a couple of weeks of regular playing time to see if they should bring him back in September.

Keeping Rojas and Pache is not ideal, but there may not be a better choice until Marsh is back.
