An important game for the Phillies tonight and an extremely disappointing performance.
The offense comes up empty again.
The pitching was actually pretty good except for the first five batters to come to the plate in the top of the sixth. Velasquez pitching 5 shutout innings might be all we should expect from him. Gabe tried to get another inning from him and it blew up on the team. I can't say I wouldn't have done the same and in fairness to Kapler, he did pull him after the walk and home run. The usually reliable Morgan served up two more homers before Morin came on to close out the inning. Of course, the game was lost by then.
The ninth inning turned in by Eflin pretty much convinces me that moving him to the pen isn't going to be a panacea for his struggles of recent weeks. A scoreless inning but a hit and two walks is not doing the job.
I hope they can take the series with a win tomorrow.
