That might be true. I mean, you could see them trying to still salvage him (and the sunk cost) up until this point. But I think it was heading this way by Tuesday regardless. He would have had to show a lot more a lot sooner both to save his spot and to make the Phillies feel they didn't have to trade for anyone else. With a trade likely as well as Coonrod coming back, he has to go, and Nelson could also end up being optioned.
Familia was to Mets fans as Neris was to Phillies fans except Familia had gotten legitimately worse (and was maybe better earlier in his career) whereas Hector was somewhat underrated. We got just as sick of him in three months as Mets fans did in three years!
