Cabrera starting at SS tonight after Lauber, a Phillie writer asked an NL scout if he could still play SS effectively and the scout basically said, "no freaking way!" Guess we will soon find out?

Velazquez doesn't typically generate many ground balls, Eflin hasn't either, in 2018.

Velasquez only goes 5 innings, 2 runs on 6 hits, 5 walks, 4 Ks.
Really not a good start but kept them in the game.
Bullpen failed tonight. Two relievers gave up two runs each. Hunter and Davis.
Combination of hits and poor defense did them in. The first double off Davis was out of Hoskins' glove. Would have been a good play but one a good ML outfielder makes.

Phillies lose games 2 and 3 in Cincinnati and try to split the series tomorrow. Overall record now 58-46. At 12 over .500, they are down 2 from their high point.

Atlanta trails LA in the top of the 9th; Nationals score a run in top of the 9th to tie 1-1 in Miami.

Dodgers scored 2 in top of the 9th to go ahead 5-1. Braves went down 1-2-3 in bottom of the 9th. Dodgers win, 5-1.

Nationals tied game with a run in top of the 9th, 1-1. Miami loaded bases with no out in bottom of the 10th. Nationals had 5 infielders on the infield grass. Realmuto hit a pop down the right field line that fell just fair to win the game, 2-1.

So Phillies hold on to same lead over second place Atlanta and third place Washington.

Sometimes your opponents help you out a lot. Still gotta get that game tomorrow with two against Boston coming up.

Velasquez hung in there despite poor command, nice finish with the 2 Ks with the bases loaded. Part of the maturation process.
Hunter had a bad luck inning, off Franco's glove, under Hernandez's glove, ground ball where they couldn't turn the DP.

This team isn't good enough to win when they don't get the breaks or make the routine plays.
