The article about trading for Gallo notes he has 2 Gold Gloves to his credit & has effectively played CF in Texas. Also notes chance for a bounce back upon getting out of NY.

I get it but merely getting traded doesn't guarantee a bounce-back. He seems like a poor fit for the Phillies specifically - a big high strike-out bat who has now hit below the Mendoza Line for three straight seasons (best one, .199 last year). Of course I recognize his offensive value beyond BA but we already have Schwarber for that, and right now he doesn't even provide that value.

And I am mildly skeptical of the Gold Gloves. But either way, he has never played CF regularly - a mere 38 games games in 2019 and only 56 in his entire career. You would just be making him a worse player putting him a CF, and the corners aren't open obviously. He's also not the same age he was in 2019.

A player having trouble handllng being a professional athlete in New York would probably have trouble handling being a professional athlete in any city in the Northeast megapolis where the media and fan glare are pretty intense in all cases. I doubt Gallo would find a respite here.

Honestly it didn't even occur to me that he is struggling because of pressure. He is under pressure now because he's struggling. But it's probably more the level of competition and less hitter-friendly ballpark. So perhaps a change of scenery would help in that regard. But also a lot to expect the switch to flip mid-season. Mostly I just don't think he fits the Phillies, because he's not really a CF and he hits just like all our other guys (some of whom are struggling themselves).

My crazy stupid idea. Familia for Gallo and a prospect. Phillies pay all the money left for both of them. Gallo gets a change of scenery, Famila goes back to New York where he was successful. Heck, maybe throw in Moniak to boost the prospect value coming back.

Haha not really the same thing. And Familia was bad for the Mets last year too. The Yankees can't make him 25 again just like we can't make Gallo 25 again (but at least he's younger).

My guess is the Phillies don't do anything big with a position player. They are not going to catch the Mets (or the Braves probably). Harper and Segura coming back should be enough to keep them in the wild card. A rotation upgrade assures it and gives them a shot in the playoffs. But we're probably not going to see them in the NLCS. And if we do it will be because the guys who are already here finally get going, not because of a new CF (or 3B or SS).
