I think it depends on the candidates. There are some (like Juan Samuel) who got tired of having their time wasted just to check off a diversity box when they never really had a chance at the job. But the process also helps less established candidates make a name for themselves. If you become a finalist for one manager job you have a better chance at the next one and when there are only 30 even one interview is no small thing. It may also get you a bench coach or other job along the way.
I also think it's good for the team to talk to outside candidates, always. This is a dugout staff with no real new people or ideals since 2018. If there might not be a change you at least want to hear other perspectives.
There may also be a process for an exemption. But not in-season.
But mostly, this is just premature. If this team actually gets somewhere this is a debate worth having. If they miss the playoffs - even though it won't likely be Thomson's fault as manager - it's hard to imagine his return gets rubber-stamped.
Of course it's also hard to imagine Dombrowski not hiring a white guy. Though obviously there are several good candidates already speculatively associated with the job. And it's frankly amazing to me that Spanish isn't almost mandatory at this point.
