Really odd game - both starters pitched well, and some of the runs scored against them were tainted. Phillies could have escaped the top of the 7th with no runs scored if Hoskins catches Franco’s throw or one of Segura/Franco make a play on the infield grounder. Give the Reds credit for not packing it in on getaway day.

Getting two outs seems easy but that third out is difficult of late for Phillies pitchers.

Of course, a two out hit has to be followed by a walk. Balls 3 and 4 not even close to being strikes and makes it easy for the batter to not be fooled and strike out.

To some extent managers have always managed to not get fired. If you do the obvious correct decision and fail, it's okay. Time was that decision was to leave the starter in, or go to your Proven Closer. Now it's to do what the numbers guys - and by extension, your boss the GM - say is best. You get bad outcomes and second-guessing either way.

Cincinnati is likely better than their record indicates and they came back to take the lead with those 3 runs in the 7th.

Nola came so close to getting out of the inning. Hoskins was holding the bag when that throw went off the top of his extended glove. He was stretched out and unable to really shift to the side to make sure he got the ball. Game of inches. Still, the 4 pitch walk was the killer. Get that out and there is no damage. Regardless, Nola now has two starts in a row that ended on multiple runs in his last inning after doing very well to that point.

I guess I'd have to watch it again, it didn't seem to me like he muffed it, that it was a tough throw to handle (with a great effort by Franco) and to actually catch it he would have had to move.

It stinks that we give up the most home runs in the league and aren't getting enough of them from our boppers.
