Nola has had some outstanding starts but has had too many like tonight, where he is just ordinary to bad.
I had hopes that he would sail through at least 6, if not 7 innings tonight, but clearly it was not to be. Frankly, he was hurt in that big inning by hits on off speed pitches out of the strike zone. The Marlins looped a couple in just out of reach of the infielder going back into the outfield and punched several more in front of the outfielders.
Many of the hits were with 2 strikes. I wonder how it would have gone had they called some fast balls instead of the change ups and knuckle curves. Guess we will never know, but outcome wise, I don't think it could have been worse. All five hits in the 5th inning and the 2 home runs in previous innings came on off speed pitches.
