Looks like Feliz is not going to help. Maybe he shakes out of the early bad start but so far, disaster.

I looked back and see that both home runs Nola gave up were on off speed pitches. One a change up and one a knuckle curve. So 7 of the 9 hits given up by Nolas were off speed pitches. The Marlins appear to be very good at hitting these, even when not in the strike zone. I see Feliz also gave up a huge hit on a change up.

Final line on Nola, who sees his ERA soar to 4.44, is 4.2IP, 9 hits, 7 runs, no walks, 11 Ks. Clearly, he only had 4 innings in him tonight and in spite of the impressive strike out numbers, he has a terrible start. His inconsistency continues to haunt him.

This is reminiscent of Monday’s game in Cincinnati. You have the feeling that the Phillies may hang on to win and then the roof caves in.

Starting rotation to date is shaping up as Wheeler clearly the #1 and then Nola, Velasquez and Eflin far behind. Almost like a 1 and three 3/4 starters. Clearly a need for a real #2 starter.

Nola 4.44 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, .253 avg.
Velasquez 4.22 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, .208 avg.
Eflin 4.20 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, .282 avg.

All three have had solid starts this season but also some clunkers. I have hopes that all three can be solid starters for the second half of the season, but they have to step up and do it. The Phillies need solid starts to have a chance of winning. Nola, Eflin, and Velasquez need to give them a solid 2-3-4 in the rotation.

Nola is having an up and down year. But hes been an ace. Would you have traded Carlton in 1973 when he lost 20 games, had a 3.90 ERA and and 1.38 WHIP
