Because he was at 66 pitches and 4IP. He was only averaging 4IP in AAA and the most pitches he had thrown in an outing this year was in MLB was 49. He was at his limit based on how stretched out he is at this point.

You dont want to injure Falter because the rest of the bullpen cant get outs.

The Phillies bullpen ERA is 4.44 on the season and ranks 21st in baseball. Yet, it feels worse than last year or at least just as bad. I would be curious to see what it has been over the last sixty games.

I mean, 21st is still not good. And our offense isn't as good so the 7-8-9 inning guys are probably in more tight games. And somehow when the offense puts up 9 or 11 it's also still not enough.

Is perception reality or is reality perception?

The ERA is 2.6 runs better than last year. Hard to believe. What appears to be happening is that the Phillies bullpen is allowing fewer runs but blowing more leads.
