Truly brutal. Why have the Phillies struggled so much in what is otherwise the Age of Bullpens (and openers, and tandems)? Lots of pitchers out there who have actually been Phillies getting it done.

I don't know. The Phillies have tried EVERYTHING in the bullpen. Signing accomplished relievers to good money. Trying journeymen. Promoting guys from the system who showed potential in Allentown. Trying veterans who once were top notch pitchers. Acquiring guys with good arms or stuff who haven't put it together yet. Literally NOTHING works. Every thing they try blows up in their faces. At this point, I think if they borrowed Doc Brown's Delorean and went back to 1984 and brought back Willie Hernandez, to 1998 and brought back Mariano Rivera and to 2008 and brought back Brad Lidge, they would all get lit up. Sooner or later, the black cloud that seems settled over the Phillies bullpen will have to drift off someplace else.

Perhaps an exorcism?
