An extra innings game that has Pache and Castellanos as 2 of our hitters is just bad luck. Both have been bad all season (Pache hasn’t really had many chances)

Expect that Marsh will go to the IL tomorrow. Will we see Dahl take his place, with another 60-day IL move to free up a spot on the 40-man roster?

Pache would never have been hitting against a RHP in that situation if Marsh and Clemens weren't both unavailable.

Imagine they will go get Dahl. Only question is whether for Marsh or Clemens I guess. We'll still see more of Pache. Looks like the Mets are going with 2 lefties in the London series FWIW.

I bet Walker is the best fifth starter the Phillies have had since Joe Blanton or Kyle Kendrick. We just have a higher standard right now, as well as a specific guy who's better.

I'm not sure Blanton was, relative to what salaries were at the time, both leaguewide and as a percentage of this team's budget. Like Walker he was not signed to be a fifth starter. He also didn't hit the open market (but had an acquisition cost).

Blanton's salary was $5.4M of $113M in team salary in 2009, or 4.8%.

Walker's salary this year is $18M, with the team at $254M, or 7.1%.

Interesting to me is that the Phillies were $39M under the $162M lux tax threshold in '09. That's more than I thought.

Of course Walker earned his salary last year and there was no one better if he hadn't. Including the guy they got at the deadline. Even in October it was pretty even between him and Sanchez (and Sanchez didn't actually answer the bell).

Always better to have a Sanchez or a Turnbull than an open market free agent. I would have sooner spent that money on a bat last year but I don't think it's really stopping them from doing anything this year.
