At least Harrison was cheap. But I think utility player is a misnomer. That's Sosa. Wanting a second guy who can play multiple positions and hit is a bit of unicorn. In the old days the Harrison slot would have gone to Wes Helms or Justin Bour or Matt Stairs (or Darrick Hall), but between the managerial preference for flexibility and the lack of PH needs it's easier said then done. But agree, may as well just go with a Clemens or Weston Wilson or a Jake Cave or Darrick Hall.
Merrifield actually was that unicorn, but got the pay and the ABs to be a starter. Just didn't deserve either this year.
I bet Walker is the best fifth starter the Phillies have had since Joe Blanton or Kyle Kendrick. We just have a higher standard right now, as well as a specific guy who's better.
