Well, it's unfortunate they couldn't keep it a winnable game but Waldron was just a little better (or offense a little worse) before that happened.

Harper with 2 HR's but came up empty in the first when getting ahead may have changed the whole game.

Ironically during both of those seasons, the Phillies got swept in the season series by the Astros who were still an NL team at that point.

I still say the problem is Marsh who is below average offensively. We definitely need a left fielder who is a plus offensive player. Then play your specialist in centerfield

Marsh is fine offensively against RHP. He just is an average CF. He is not the problem. He might have started this game in CF anyway even if Rojas were still on the team.

If the problem is Marsh than what does that make Castellanos who is worse than Marsh both offensively and defensively? (Other than, it might make them one good LF between them.)

The idea that the Phillies did this to try and upgrade CF or the offense doesn't really hold water. They are treading water, while seeing what they have in Dahl and Pache (without losing one of them) and Merrifield (without eating his $, at least not yet) and giving Rojas five weeks to improve.

And, as ever, they can afford to be below average at certain spots so long as they continue to win every home series. If they lose some more on the road or a few tough ones that is what the cushion of April and May bought them until late July brings more moves (and the return of JT hopefully). The question is, what kind/how big?

Marsh was a perfectly fine CF when he was replacing Herrera and Vierling and helping them get to the World Series wasn't he? He's just not a great one. But he'll still out-WAR Rojas there for now, Considering he's fresh off an injury and thrown back into the position, bumps to be expected.

In left field he is a problem offensively. He is adequate in CF. But a .260 hitter with below average power is not what u want in LF

Marsh's issue is that he is likely only a platoon player. But an 887 OPS against RHP going into today is a very good platoon player playable in LF or anywhere. I think Rojas will be back by August unless we trade for somebody like Robert. Dahl is just not that good. He deserved a shot after what he did in AAA, but AAA ain't what it used to be (and Dahl really was platooned there and DH'd most of the time).

The team just won a series against a pretty good team. There is no crying need to solve these issues today. They deserve a month or two to figure things out.

He is an elite defensive LF and a better than very good offensive player against RHP, which is the strong side of the platoon. He's also still the youngest and least experienced starter on the team minus Rojas (or at least, the same as Stott). It is disappointing he hasn't taken that leap forward but no different than what's been happening with Bohm and Stott at various points in the last few years. And because he's a LHB and a good defender he is still more useful than the current Casty (though I'm still hoping) or last year's Bohm, to say nothing of Merrifield and Pache (who are more "bench players" than "platoon players.")

Entirely possible that Dahl loses his spot to Clemens between now and the deadline, or that they really do give Sosa a shot in LF. But he certainly won't field as well as Marsh or hit like an OF either, just possibly better than Merrifield.

Marsh has the second highest dWAR on the team, behind Stott and tied with Sosa. He is tied with Stott for third on the team in overall WAR, behind Ranger and Harper. He didn't have a good game, but he is not a problem on this team.

He was also fourth in total WAR last year and our second-most productive offensive player (by OPS+). It's great that Turner and Bohm are finally keeping pace with him.
