That's true, but the 2023 option also has risk. He'll be 31 and I don't think he'd get what that year pays ($12.5 million) on the open market. 31 is where Didi is right now, and when Cutch stopped playing CF. Buyout is easy though ($1 million).
We're comparing him to JBJ who makes $12 million AAV but this is the deal Bradley actually had to take coming off a good 2020:
2021: $3 million, with $3.5 million deferred
2022 $9.5 million player option, $3 million plus $6.5 million deferred.
Or $6.5 million buyout. If he takes the option, then...
2023 $12 million mutual option with $8 million buyout
The Phillies are so short on talent they likely have to keep him but realistically his trade or FA value should they decide to move on is going to be minimal.
