Yes, beating the Braves 1-0 would be nice, but letting them back in and then giving them a 2 run lead in the tenth only to come back and beat them is even more depressing for the Braves.

Always true. Alvarado comes out of the game looking good with a win, no hits, and no earned runs in his inning of work.

I feel bad for Neris because this will get the phanbase on his back again but, in all fairness, a great player beat him. Sometimes, you can't complain about that. And, I feel bad for Wheeler not getting the win. He would be a Cy Young candidate--or Cy Young runner-up candidate, considering what de Grom is doing--if the Phillies got him more runs.

The last two games slap back the sting of that dreadful 12-inning loss in Atlanta back on 5/8. If the team needed an emotional kickstart, they sure got it with these two finishes!

Yup, Hector is easily still our best and most trustworthy reliever even if that's grading on a curve, and no shame in losing that battle - so long as he wins 'em sometimes too. At least it wasn't Panda.

The GDT doesn't show Marchan's at bat. I wasn't listening to the game or watching it, so I'm wondering what transpired between Marchan's walk and Bohm's RBI single. According to the box score, Marchan walked, but how did he get in scoring position?

Marchan started the inning at 2nd base because of extra inning rules. He did not have a plate appearance to start the inning. Bohm’s at bat was the first.

And the previous inning Miller made the last out but was replaced by the pitcher. Previous lineup spot was Knapp who was replaced by Jankowski as a pinch runner who then was replaced by Marchan. So Marchan's spot got put on 2nd. I think Girardi had to put Marchan there (not that he wanted to run a catcher) because Marchan would have been the runner even if he had replaced Miller in the lineup.

It's interesting, the writers all think the Phillies will still let him go, maybe re-sign him on the cheap instead of for $11.5, but that is probably wrong, even if you presume lower market value and other teams not wanting to touch him.

He's not a free agent, so if they bought him out and tendered him they surely wouldn't save any money (buyout is $2.5 million and he makes $10 million now so even if he took a $1 million pay cut that's the same as the option).

And if they non-tendered and re-signed him for $7 or or 8 million they would be saving cash but raising his AAV.

It was a very good contract for the Phillies, had he stayed in the line-up all along, and between the buyouts and the relatively modest $ (compared to the likes of Cutch and even Didi), it still is.
