It sounds like Neshek not being able to get loose in the 8th may explain why Dominguez was left in too long. Obviously our bullpen is flawed; glad that we survived tonight to eek out a win.

The replay review confirms the out at first for the double play.

Save for Nicasio, his first. It ends up that Kapler still uses four relievers in the game but many of us think he could have won in nine innings using three. Of course, we will never know what if...

This game shows some flows with the Phillies but confirms their tenacity to come back to tie in the ninth and win in the tenth. It would have been easy to fold up after that 3 run play in the bottom of the 8th blew a lead and put them behind. Difference making clutch hits with two out by Segura in the ninth and the two out homer by Realmuto in the tenth. Two off season trade additions come through.

Hated to give up sanchez, but this could really work out for the phils. i think Odubel should sit for a few and maybe give rays a rest. who do they have, though?.

I expect Kingery will get the start in CF tomorrow night and depending on how he does, he could get more.

Lost in the excitement late in the game is the quality start tonight from Jake Arrieta. Although he struggled in the middle four innings of his six tonight, he ends up only giving up one run and was in line for the win until Dominguez' blown save in the 8th.

In the end, a great win coming from behind twice tonight.

Mets beat Nationals tonight; Braves leading in SF.

Good to see Franco take the ball the opposite way a couple times, wonder if the hitting coach has been working on that, he's in trouble when he reverts back to that big pull swing.

SD had a great inning, and only threw 10 pitches, just no reason for him to fall apart and walk the first two batters.
Cesar looks like he did before he hurt his foot, that injury obviously really hindered him last year.

Rhys has reverse splits - better against RHP then LHP. May make sense to get him and Harper some rest against some LHP.

Its incredible how well this team is doing with an incompetent manager who can't handle bullpens. Its also incredible how every single run the bullpen gives up is his fault. Does he get credit for every out they make?

The Phillies have the 8th best bullpen ERA in the majors and 3rd best in the NL, so there must be 22 even more incompetent managers surely?

I don't care for ERA but given the injuries sustained by pitchers who were presumed to be reliable, and Seranthonys regression I think Gabe is doing pretty well. I'd love if he made more right decisions but hes clearly not incompetent.

The Phillies were rated to have one of the better bullpens in the league coming into the season, so it is not a surprise they are above average now. I think all bullpen performance is deteriorating as we see increased bullpen usage. The Phillies' mix of injuries is about par for the league and we have as many pitchers exceeding expectations as not meeting them. Neris and Morgan are the ones that have been better than expected.

The bullpen will likely get a boost from someone like Pivetta in the future. Kapler does not trust someone like De Los Santos in key situations yet but that might not be true with Pivetta since he has much more history with him. A 2-inning reliever not relegated to simply mop up duty will really help spread the workload around. Seranthony may just need to be largely a 1-inning pitcher this year.

The Robertson injury has really caused us to scramble with the bullpen. I think they envisioned him playing a major role.

The first was my point that increased injuries should be expected. Now the second statement is interesting if we really move into a model of pitchers only going through the lineup twice which is about 4 innings. If that usage pattern continues then spot relief outings might make sense - or going to a 4-man 80 pitch limit rotation. With a 2-3 inning long reliever slated to go each game.

The way we have changed our Lakewood staff could be about cautious development. It also might be about the future however.
