As far as I'm concerned he can keep the power and lose some of the BA/OBP (instead of vice-versa).

Cracks me up that the McCarthy always calls it Utley's Corner.

I would like to see less of Whit Merrifield but at the same time, he's been pretty useful over this stretch. You just don't want him to have to play quite so much (or in the OF).

Great outing for Nola.

Back-up catcher must not have completely stunk either.

We just won a game relatively easy without $800 million of offense in the lineup (Harper, Turner, Realmuto). Baseball is a wonderous thing sometimes.

That was a pretty masterful performance by Nola. Lived in the lower part of the zone all day.

Sinker 91 to 93 all game long. 4-Seam 92 to 94 all game. 109 pitches and threw just as hard in the 9th as he did in the 1st.

Are we still worried about him?:grinning:

With Aaron Nola's complete game shutout today...

- #Phillies are the first team in MLB with 2 CG's this year

- Nola ties Gerrit Cole and Max Fried for most shutouts since 2020 (4)

Sometimes the New York Mets are a wondrous thing, though there but for the grace of the baseball gods....

I love the 2 + 2 format this week. They do this with the interleague rivals sometimes (i.e. Yankees-Mets) but rarely in division. Assume this is because in London each team will get 1 home game which creates the need for these 2-game series.

That assumes that JT should continue catching a very high number of games every year at his age and that he will stay healthy every season..

That the Phillies have gotten very lucky so far does not mean it is a good strategy or that having a very poor backup C is good roster management, especially by one of the highest payroll teams in the game.

In fact, having such a great team screams out loud the need for not allowing that weakness to cost them in the playoffs.

He kept the ball down which is the key for Nola. A fantastic outing by him. He gets in trouble when he gets the ball up in the zone with his very hittable velocity.

Oh, I agree he shouldn't keep catching that many games after this season. And that it might need to be addressed this July. But I had no problem with Stubbs and Marchan as the options in spring training.

I think you could sign a $2.5 million back-up catcher and still get nothing from them. And shoot, Cristian Bethancourt got 300+ PAs with a .634 OPS for a team that won 99 games last season.

I'm just not convinced Stubb is actually bad.
