Those speeds aren't consistent with the telecast numbers, so maybe the telecast had it wrong. The averages seem high if those first inning numbers are his maxes, which they seem to be.
Fangraphs (which is supposedly consistent from park to park) has his FB at 91.8 mph (about 1 mph slower than last season's average) and his sinker at 86.5 mph, and pitch info has the FB slightly higher, at 92.0, and a really high value for the sinker, 91.7. Those numbers are each 1 mph below his average values for 2023.
After one game, his FIP is almost 7.00, and his xERA is almost 12. Despite the win, it wasn't a good outing, which I think most fans sensed just watching.
I wonder if the Phils aren't trying to trade his contract...he seems unhappy in Philly (ever since he was skipped for the playoffs), maybe they want to help him find a change of scenery.
