Arrieta already had 90 pitches and 7 innings, just gave up a HR and was sent up to hit? This may work out, but it makes no sense. Bullpen had yesterday off, everyone should be available
Four games in Colorado coming up and a short bullpen (at the moment). A little risky but gotta hand it to Jake. Hernandez thinks he's coming back out too.

Jake is out there. You sure don't want to lose this game, but I think this is also kind of a Moment for Gabe.
And if he doesn't get Alonso I assume he's gone, since there's lefties coming up. Morgan's ready, Neris was apparently warm too.
Alonso, P
Called strike (91.8 mph sinker)Swinging strike (88.9 mph slider)Ball (92.6 mph sinker)In play, no out (87.6 mph changeup)
Pete Alonso singles on a ground ball to pitcher Jake Arrieta.
Tough break, IF hit bounced off of Arrieta, he still made a play but not in time for to get him (at least it wasn't a bad throw). To the pen now.
And now, if the pen doesn't hold up, we can complain that Arrieta should have stayed in!

well this is fun.
a lot of bad luck here. not sure how the heck Morgan hit Cano. Then another infield single (though Rosario earned that one).
Hector just can't throw fastballs for all kinds of reasons apparently. still just need the out!

Final
I actually really enjoyed that AB. It was quite the chess match. I really thought the splitter was still coming but it probably would have been Ball 4 the way he hadn't been biting on it. Strike 1 was extremely generous to Hector too.
Post-game word is that Herrera had a right hamstring cramp. Whether that implies any damage (e.g., strain) remains to be seen.
