Hoskins is never going to be good defensively, Howard wasn't either. Nor Thome for that matter. He just has to be a near All-Star offensively.

Maybe Harper will be better there in three years.

I mean, Rhys had a 1,104 OPS going into tonight, he can make a few errors and have a bad game at the plate. And Nola, of course, has a track record which means he can also struggle. But he's actually been bad all year and Rhys has not been.

Clearly the closer is a big plus for the Mets but not really the difference in this game.

In the end, it came down to making plays in the field or not making them.

Phillies came back 3 times to tie the game but never could take the lead. Sadly, the Mets continue to dominate the Phillies but hopefully, the Phillies can take the next two to win this series.

Well, the question is, is Kimbrel actually that good? Phillies could have had Diaz (who is 25 and not a FA until 2023), it just would have cost 'em. Like it cost the Astros to get Giles, oops.

I'm sure Kimbrel's agent called as soon as he heard about Robertson (or if he didn't call it's because he's being coy) but I still wouldn't sign the guy for three years.

I'm wondering if Nola is hurt, his velocity is there but his command is all over the place, which is the first sign of arm injury, pitcher compensates by overthrowing, loses command and the sharp break on his FB.

Yesterday it looked like Nola was having trouble gripping his curveball. So he shelved it for the most part. He is an ordinary pitcher if he is without his best pitch.

Hard to draw any conclusions from yesterday specifically but the trend is obviously concerning.

I was at the game and was freezing cold. We left after six innings as my fingers were getting numb, even though I stuffed them into my sweatshirt pocket. The wind was strong and bitter cold. I’m not surprised by the errors. Franco’s home run was right into the teeth of the wind. We were directly behind home plate and there some amazingly high pop ups sailing over our heads into the second and third decks.

I am concerned about Nola, but the conditions were so bad, it’s difficult to complain.

There is a video clearly showing Syndergaard picking up something on two of his fingers as he is pitching. Very clear the way he moved his fingers that there was something in his glove.
