4 of the 6 have occurred in the last 5 years.... it might be time to try something new to start the season? hmmmm have tried both home and away games that didn't work

I see two in the past the past two years and 1 other this century.

I'm also assuming there have been some other seasons between 2012 and 2022 where they got off to better starts.... but didn't have better seasons.

I do think it's pretty random but also we probably need to stop thinking it matters at all, in the wild card/unbalanced era. Unless you just want a soccer-type championship (which we had in 2011).

Braves are just better than us, of course. But are they actually better prepared?

I have to believe that these two games are not an indication of this season. But they have to go out and win games. It is a long season but now is the time to stay close to the Braves. Don’t dig the hole too deep.

Most of the issues have been on the pitching side - pen in the first game and Nola + pen in the second game.

The offense is not cranking either, but with better pitching we would have been right in both these games with chances to win.

I still think the offense is the bigger issue long term due to Realmuto's predicted workload related decline, Casty continuing to struggle, carrying Rojas, Harper's health and the inconsistency of Bohm.

The offensive issues are why we're probably looking at another 88-92 win team, not a division winner. The pitching (assuming the bullpen settles down) is also why we're probably looking at another 88-92 win team, not a non-playoff club.

The question is did SF, AZ, even a few of the Central teams get better (through both new acquisitions and youth) while the Phillies did not?

In the meantime just gotta win a game today or it probably won't even be a .500 home stand.

You mean we win a World Series this year and then both the player and the team stink for the next five? I think I'd take it.

Because there's still a pretty good chance of some fallow years in that time frame regardless. Either way, these Phillies probably don't blink an eye and just buy another pitcher if they have to. Or they go into a rebuild that may have to happen anyway
