First time ever to Nationals Park. Other than hitting in the first 6 innings and pitching in the 8th it was a great game (and outcome) Harper still gets booed, Eagles chants after Bohms hit.

I was disappointed with Romaro this game but expect he will contribute. The other three relievers used today did well. The bullpen should be an asset.

For what it's worth, the Braves' pen blew a lead for Chris Sale today (Hector Neris gave up most of the damage), and the Pirates' pen blew a lead for Paul Skenes, too.

Wins are a very poor measure of a pitcher's performance. If the Cy Award determination over-emphasizes the win stat, then that just devalues the Cy. Wheeler gave up 1 run in 6 IP. His record is just fine. Wins and losses are team stats, not individual stats. Baseball's approach to stats and records can be rather galling.

They say wins don't matter, but if it's close between Wheeler and somebody who has similar stats but more wins you know the more wins guy will win the prizes

Thoughts:

Stott and Marsh looked clueless against LH pitchers, a few more games like this and the platoon will be permanent.

Romano looked like absolute crap his first few batters, 93 MPH, no command of the slider, BB, HB, didn't hold runners. Then he loosened up, 96 MPH, slider unhittable, tying run came off a bloop off the end of the bat.

They're going to extend Schwarber, looked like he picked up where he left off, zero issue with LH pitching, looked just as comfortable as last season - proof hitters can adjust as they age, especially if they take conditioning seriously.

Casty got lucky, pulled a slider low and away and got it over the IF, but a good hitter pokes it to the right side with runners and 1st and 2nd.
