Freddy Galvis and JP Crawford discussion

I'm looking forward to the 2018 season but I'm going to miss Galvis' highlight reel plays.

I think JP will make more mistakes, but he'll make as many or more highlight plays. He's really quick laterally and has a strong arm. Hope the fans don't get all over him early for errors, which are almost always high for rookie SSs.

I am equally worried about the reaction to his offense. He is really not a high BA or power guy, he is a high OBP guy with moderate power. He is probably never going to put up great traditional stats and some fans won't realize that his .370 OBP is a great thing for a SS.

Also, he has shown a slow start tendency. I hope he has a big April just to hold off the boo birds.

This not your father's Phillies' front office. They aren't going worry about fans or media who still don't understand OBP. Plus, glove or no glove, Freddy was generally terrible and got a pass, even as Rollins' successor. So long as the rest of the IF brings some power I think fans will get used to having a more traditional SS (assuming, of course, that JP doesn't move to 3B next year).

It's like real life--conversations sometimes go off on a tangent, often in a really unpredictable direction.
