PHILLIES ACQUIRE MEDINA FROM PIRATES
The Phillies have acquired right-hander Yoervis Medina from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for left-hander Jesse Biddle, Vice President & General Manager Matt Klentak announced today.
Medina, 27, is 10-9 with a 3.08 ERA (50 ER, 146.0 IP) over 146 career major league games for the Seattle Mariners (2013-15) and Chicago Cubs (2015). Originally signed by Seattle as an amateur free agent in 2005, Medina has allowed only 36 extra-base hits in his major league career while holding opponents to a .331 slugging percentage.
Medina will be in major league spring training as a non-roster invitee.
Biddle, selected by the Phillies in the first round (27th overall) of the June 2010 draft, went 40-45 with a 3.81 ERA (287 ER, 677.1 IP) in 133 minor league games (132 starts) for the Phillies. A graduate of Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, Biddle was designated for assignment on January 29.
