Washington's football team has been bad for a really long time. That clearly isn't the case anymore.

With that said, the officials really made 2 bad calls tonight, both of which went against the Eagles. One a hold that wasn't and a facemask that was but the flag was rescinded. And the regularly sure-footed Jake Elliott is having a really bad night. That missed extra point looms large at the moment.

After last season, this Eagles defense is a breath of fresh air. Let's hope it continues against better teams.

Went from ranking the Eagles behind the Commanders cause the Eagles haven't beaten a good team, to having the defense shut down the Commanders (until garbage time), then it's 'let's see them against better teams'.

I'll say this again:

"Beating a good team" always seems a little tricky for the teams I follow somehow, if said team beats another team that's a 'good' team it seems like the comments either go 'they were lucky' or '(other team) isn't really good'.

Calcatarra with a huge hustle play. Lots of guys would not have been there to recover that fumble 30 yards downfield. Goeddert owes him a dinner or two.

Was the Ertz catch the only ball thrown Q Mitchell's way? And I think he might have been in zone and expecting shallow/inside help from DeJean. Not that Slay had a lot of passes thrown his way, either.

It was hard to gauge how Hurts played. He had some drops and the one throw where AJB went to turn up the field when Chinn fell down, but Hurts was throwing to where the route was and it probably should have been a first down. It almost seemed like a game manager type of game for him, but Washington was getting a lot of pressure early.

Even with the missed FGs, the Eagles did have some longer drives and were running a lot. I was wondering if Washington's defense was going to get worn down in the 2nd half.

Hopefully Dickerson's and Hurts' injuries don't linger. I know they both went back in, but Dickerson was doing cartwheels like 3 months after his ACL surgery (so it's hard to tell with him) and Hurts already has an ankle and certainly doesn't need to add minor concussion symptoms to that.

Yes, I think the Negadelphian take will be Washington's not a true test...

Their seven wins include only one against a team with a winning record (6-4 Arizona) and have come against teams with a combined .362 winning percentage.

And one of those wins included a pretty fortunate ending.

The Commanders were averaging 28.4 points per game and 377 yards per game.

Vic Fangio’s defense held Washington to a season-low 18 points and 264 yards.

8 points and 70 yards came in that final slow 'make the score look closer' drive.

Based on EPA per drive, Eagles defense just held the Commanders offense to their worst offensive performance of the season.

Eagles defense is allowing 16.4 PPG -- the third-best mark in the NFL.

The Eagles had 150 rushing yards BEFORE CONTACT tonight, per @NextGenStats. Third-most in a game this season.

There have been 222 games this season in which a team had less than 150 total rushing yards.

If you want to be a Negadelphian about it, why worry so much about their status in the NFC? Much easier to still imagine them losing in the Super Bowl.

Is anyone else amused that the Eagles are obviously playing salary cap games with James Bradbury? They obviously don’t want to take the cap hit from releasing him

I think I have seen where teams can roll salary cap space from one year into the next, and I am curious if players on the IR provide cap credit like they do in the NHL. Just curious if it’s more layered than just the dead money for cutting him.

But Bradberry has so much guaranteed money I don’t understand why he would be a willing participant. Seems like if he was cut he’d be able to sign another contract and actually play and still get paid.

I honestly wonder if Bradberry hasn’t also come to the conclusion that his time in the NFL is over. He knows how last season went, he knows that he was behind every receiver chasing them.

I wonder if this preseason he realized he just can keep up with anyone anymore, for whatever the reason (leg issue, ??).

I agree it would be an odd conclusion for a player to reach that was so good just 2 seasons ago, but last year for him was extreme. I doubt what I am seeing here is correct, but I wonder if it is possible. “Give me my salary this year and I won’t make any waves”

My guess is if he was cut any contract he signs will come with no or very little guaranteed money, just a 1 year “show us” contract. There is film of him just chasing guys play after play and then losing his CB job completely in Philly

I don't think there is anything going on there. The activation window will eventually open, he will have trouble getting playing time (unless it is somehow merited or with other injuries) and they will deal with it in the off-season.

This was a month ago now, so it really does seem like it should be time. If he hadn't actually been hurt they might have at least had a chance to move him.

Eagles’ James Bradberry doesn’t have a time frame for return from his leg injury...

The Inquirer reported that Bradberry was expected to miss six to eight weeks, which would mean that Thursday was right in the middle of that window. Still, while Bradberry called the rehab process “smooth,” he was hesitant to put a timeline on his return.

I did some reading, there is no cap relief for putting someone on IR in the NFL, it just affords the team an extra roster spot. Bradberry has so much guaranteed money, the cap hit this year to cut him goes up an additional $10.8m, and the Eagles only have $10.7m in cap space so i think they would have to cut someone else who doesn’t have guaranteed money in order to cut bradberry. If they cut him next year the cap hit is his salary plus three more million and they have more space - and if for some reason he stuck around through 2025 he would be cut with no penalty in 2026 because the salary ballon’s to over 20m. It’s not affordable for the eagles to cut him in 2024 and maybe he would rather be on the IR than be a healthy scratch and the eagles can use the roster spot for a backup at a less deep position. That’s the best i could come up with.

Keep in mind, his salary is guaranteed this year and next even if the Eagles cut him, so there’s no financial pain to him if he gets cut, and even a prove it deal would result in more money in the bank for bradeberry because he would get his eagles pay plus the million from the new team.

Officially? I don’t know how to read the cap charts then, I was looking at the contract details on overthecap and it’s still listed as 20.99 base for 2026 which i assume is an option. He has $20m gaurenteed over three years (23-25) - contract value of 38m and what i assume is a fourth year option that would not make sense to activate.

Yes. He'll probably be cut this off-season. The Eagles will eat $10m or whatever, but then it's done. Considering what Q and Coop are making it is fine for a year.

I agree - i think they will cut him this off-season because the extra 3m is manageable. They cannot afford to cut him in 2024 which is what BK originally pointed out - i was trying to figure out what’s in it for bradberry to be on the IR rather than active roster if the Eagles can’t afford to cut him.
