He doesn't call the plays, but he definitely makes decisions on things like:
Going for it on 4th down at the Saints 15 with 13 seconds to go. And then calls a running play. Best case we convert, have to call TO, probably about 8 seconds to go, so this limits your options for your shot into the end zone if you want to keep the FG in play. If you want the TD - you go for it on the 4th down attempt. Just a terrible decision. Almost fireable IMO. If you can't figure out that your decision offers almost all downside and little upside, you're not smart enough to make those decisions.
Another limited upside, lots of downside decision on the 60+ yard FG attempt. Maybe a better decision earlier in the game, but late in the game that decisions upside is still a one score game and the downside is the short field and momentum. Not in the class of the first half decision but still poor.
Not calling a TO when Saints reached the 13 yard line with 3 minutes to go. Instead he let the Saints run off a minute which they were happy to do. Didn't hurt us, but that is a baffling decision when you have 3 TOs.
You could say the first drive of the second half was a correct decision in isolation. I'm not sure though that a smart coach would have made it given what had transpired to that point. Sometimes you just need to take the points.
Put it together with the game losing decision to 1) throw the ball on 3rd down last week with the Falcons out of TOs, and 2) not going for it on 4th. Take the defensive collapse out of it, that decision was pee wee level coaching.
Most of the time people get on coaches it's hindsight. Lots of 50/50s or even 60/40s that go the wrong way, and it is unfair to criticize. These aren't the case. Even if they worked out in the Eagles favor, they were poor to terrible decisions that cost us one game and didn't cost us the other game.
The players play for him and that is a big thing. He also seems to have bridged the divide with his QB, another big thing. And he's not afraid to delegate and bring guys in.
But he's gotta get better at the decision making I detailed above or at a minimum get out of the way of it. Has to, it's too easy.
