Yes, the question that will be answered during the season is did Sirianni have “say” in these hires or were they forced on him? Can he work with them? I think it is fair to say that if it goes wrong this time it will be Sirianni’s job that is in trouble.

He really needs to hope for a favorable schedule, because if we get the opposite schedule from this year (i.e ludicrously hard at the beginning, easy in the end) he is going to be in big trouble.

I don’t think anyone can be upset with these coordinators really. Let’s get our young, up and coming guys at the next level down.

I think this is true. The Eagles had clear personnel issues, particularly DBs and LBs, but both the offense and defense were about as plain vanilla a repeat of the 2022 schemes as is possible to imagine. Hurts 2023 was lesser than Hurts 2022 and, although some of that seemed due to injury, a lot seemed due to scheme. Part was on him. Sirianni deserves to be on probation this season. He was too inflexible and it seems problems developed between him and some of his players and between players.

One of the more interesting questions to me is do you risk that Bradbury can return to form with a revised scheme. He literally went from 1st in passer rating against to almost last, that just seems like there was another problem, not just 1 year of regression.

He was atrocious this year, all year. Do you hope he just couldn’t do what Desai wanted? He probably costs more to release than keep

Bradbury is pretty well protected. Per Spotrac, an annual $1M-ish salary next two years but a large signing bonus last year to amortize and fully guaranteed $6M option bonus in '25. So in '24 the cap hit is $4.9M with a dead cap of $17.3M'. In '25 there is a team out, but it's still an $8.3M annual cap hit or a dead cap of $12.5M.

It's Bradberry. I reckon Howie is not prepared to call that one a mistake yet. They will hope that health and coaching and scheme make him more useful, while also trying to address the position both in the short and medium-term.

We know it's not money he'll spend on an LB instead.

I have spelled it 4 different ways on this site. I have no idea why I have a block and refuse to look it up. Maybe it has something to do with spending the whole season watching it on the back of his jersey as he (futilely) chased a guy running into the end zone with the ball.

Is anyone else concerned with:

Fangio is known for employing a 3-4. We only have 1 LB that should be on a roster, and he is limited to really being an Edge (Reddick). Maybe Cunningham could be a solid backup. Dean is certainly going to fill one of the spots and hopefully grow into it, but he is still a bit of an unknown. We need many LB’s that can actually play, probably at least 3.

His defense is also based on very solid Safety play. Blankenship is a great story, but I am not excited about him being out on an island. Byard was basically terrible, but maybe a training camp is what he needed to learn the system. Brown was fun, high energy, flashy, but also was often toasted. We do not really have the personnel. We need at least 1 Starter type and 1 good backup (at least).

Fangio has been successful, but he has to look at this roster and say “ these aren’t the guys I want”. This is a DL based defense, I de-emphasize that position for better athletes that can do multiple things (LB’s in particular). I am worried that this is a 2-3 year process and Fangio is 65 and our window on offense is only really 2 more years and then suddenly guys are getting old.

Fangio is more of a 5-2 coach than a 3-4 coach in terms of line play. Redick and Sweat will play the outside linebackers most downs. The off-ball LBs will be Nakobe Dean and a FA or Cunningham. A lot of our success on defense depends on Dean developing (and staying healthy) or signing a better off-ball LB. They certainly need a depth signing at off-ball LB.

If Brown recovers quickly they are probably OK at safety. A couple of the larger corners (Maddox, Bradberry, Ringo, Ricks) may get snaps at safety, or at least at robber, which will look like a safety on the field. I'd rather see them draft or sign another high-quality corner. They really have the ingredients for a good defense if they scheme better, and work on tackling. I see their draft/FA defensive needs as CB, D-line, and depth off-ball LB.

Everything I am reading says the opposite. Not saying your wrong, but I have found 3/3 articles that say 3-4

A good experienced coach adapts his scheme to meet the player’s abilities. Most important change hopefully will be disguising what you are doing.

True, he will get the most out of them, but they need a big upgrade in personnel to be a top notch defense.

Not Eagles related, but the coaching vacancies are all but full, the Seahawks are hiring a coach today. I think only the Commanders job is out there and Belicheat is still available. I find it hard to think that he doesn't get a job, especially with the prestige of the all time wins prestige that goes with it.

Well, looks like Belichick will still be available to the Eagles if this season doesn't work out. Or better yet, the Cowboys. DC didn't even consider him (and perhaps not he them either).
