Ironic that the Vikings, who were celebrating so boisterously after the Reagor pick left Jefferson on the board, now have Reagor as well.

With Reagor gone, the Eagles need a punt returner. My hunch is once they can, they'll move Book to the practice squad and add either Covey or Allen to the 53.

Reagor with Jefferson & JJAW with Metcalf (seahawks signed JJAW to practice squad). That's weird.

I do remember a time when college offenses were less complicated and the conventional wisdom was that things wouldn't come together for wide receivers until their third professional season, so I was still holding out hope for Reagor. But I understand why the team moved on, I wish him all the best in Minnesota (he doesn't read my posts so it doesn't matter).

So, still a couple shoes to drop. There is an open spot on the 53 and one on the practice squad.

I suspect they will try to bring Taylor back on the practice squad, but not sure what they are looking for for the roster spot.

Eagles claimed former Ohio State and 2022 draft pick RB Trey Sermon off waivers from the Niners to complete the 53 man roster.

They still need a kick/punt returner. I also think they need a 5th receiver, but I suppose they can handle that by elevating Covey or Allen for game days, but I think the limit is still four times that they can protect someone on the practice squad, so if either of them excels in the return game, you might need to put them on the roster or risk losing them to another team.

I don't know how the season will turn out, but Howie has done everything within reason to improve. The Sermon move is just another small move that pushes us a step in the right direction.

It only he could spend some time with the Flyers front office, who seem to have no clue what they are doing and have the odd mission of putting the worst team they can on the ice while trading away the draft picks that should compensate for that.

I think Sills is still a guy that might get cut, I think they were trying to hide him until the rosters all stabilize.

My guess is that Covey is of the activates week 1 and will be our returner, after that injuries, etc should allow him to be moved up if they want to keep him as a returner.

The return game is now so unimportant. Kickoff returns are now down to maybe 1-2 per game (if the team wants to, they could just let it bounce into the end zone) and punters have gotten so good at hanging punts that even that is not nearly as important as it one was.

It's important to actually catch the punt and not hand it right back to the other team. You need someone experienced in fielding punts at the very least, you can't just throw anyone back there. I remember a game from the Reid era where he put two inexperienced returners out there, both fumbled and led to touchdowns which cost them the game.

There was something wrong with Trey Sermon in SF. I got the impression from a long way away that Sermon fell dramatically out of favor with the SF coaching staff, although I don't know why. I hope the Eagles did double the usual due diligence with him. He's talented, but has somehow aggravated those around him so much he never got the chance to show his talent.

In the video he shows a little power, not much speed, and little ability to break tackles.

Keep in mind they can activate 2 PS players each week, so it could be they already know who they want to activate week 1.

Also it is Detroit. We may only need to throw 5 passes before we have an insurmountable lead

This is kind of undermining the point. Yes, the team could call up a WR to return kicks and be a below league average WR, but why is a 4th RB, who doesn't return kicks, added in that spot?

True, I assume they see Sermon as a project / possible talent that could provide more. Maybe he can return kickoffs, not sure, that is much easier than punts, which is a more difficult learned skill.

This is unfortunate. He could have been a decent backup or a good trade chip.
