The narrative shifted pretty quickly there. It was definitely a knock on the Giants when the Eagles and Cowboys made the move, but then they spun it into gold. We'll see how Toney and Smith compare I guess.

I don't think you have to compare Toney to Smith. The fact that the Giants got a similar package to what the Eagles got is telling that the Giants made a good trade. Also, the Eagles had to add a 3rd rounder to get Smith.

I love the dynamic of the ramifications between the 3 teams, though.

Since it is possible we might have taken Smith at #6 I figure Howie did well. We added a first round next year (in a much, much deeper draft)

I hope we trade some of our picks for picks next year and Ertz also brings us something in next years draft. Simple fact is this is a rebuilding / lost season. This is an 8-8 team at the absolute best, possibly much, much worse. This is a very weak draft, so anything we can push into an abnormally deep draft next year is better.

Why? The Eagles will likely have 3 first round picks next year. The team already had a lot of picks this year. If anything, I was hoping they'd trade up into the late 1st round yesterday.

Well, Eagles are on the clock and they take with the 37th pick, G Landon Dickerson.

They probably think that this is Kelce's last season. Coming off a knee injury, or he would have gone higher. Can't say I love the pick, with the secondary being so weak. I think they could have traded back a few spots and still gotten him.

Not a good pick in my opinion. Guy is one more injury away from being done.

I just hope the medical reports were all very promising, as part of due diligence. The O-line did give up a massive amount of QB hits and sacks. Offensive line was a need.

I think Fulgham can be a plus #2/3 receiver. He showed a lot last year, but when opposing teams focused on him, they were able to shut him down. That was largely because our overall receiver corps was awful. Smith can draw enough defensive attention to give all of the other receivers a better chance. I think Reagor can be a solid #2. Ward is a solid 3rd and short guy. Smith is the #1 receiver that can make the whole receiving corps work. Also let's face it, 2020 Wentz wasn't helping anyone, not even Ertz. Btw, wasn't he supposed to be traded by now?

Yes, I'm thrilled with the Smith pick. I'm less than delighted by a second round G/C with bad knees. Sounds too much like the sort of gamble Howie loves and usually loses on.

Eagles select DT Milton Williams. Barring any trades, they are done for the night.

Would have preferred Richie Grant with the second round pick and St. Juste in the third. Both the guys they took have bust potential. Grant and St. Juste are pretty safe picks; at least low-end starters, maybe much better. Grant could be really good.

Or if you really wanted to go D-line, Barmore in round 2 and TE Hunter Long in round 3.

Well as sexy as day one was, day two not so much. Still a lot of good names out there, but like PC, I would have gone a different way. I would have taken Moehrig in the 2nd, or if they were really set on Dickerson, they could have traded back several spots and still got him.

What I want to know is who drove the train on picks (or on which picks), Lurie, Howie, or Weidl.

So, my best synopsis of yesterday's picks and what we've learned is that both picks yesterday were about the future and not this upcoming season. The 3rd round pick was Howie outsmarting himself. You can read through the tea leaves between the video of the Eagles draft room that Howie screwed up by trading back to get an extra 6th. It seems clear that they were looking to take CB Aaron Robinson and Howie thought he could drop back three spots and still get him, and of course, he goes the very next pick, so instead of a CB that could help right away, they chose a developmental DT who was a workout wonder not unlike LB Taylor last year. So between Dickerson and Williams, those are two players that are not likely to play much this coming season. Dickerson may never get hurt again and become a perennial pro bowler and Williams may become Aaron Donald light, but not this year..

I am preparing myself for disappointment today. I was really happy with DeVonta Smith, yesterday bummed me out. I get that Howie was drafting for 2022 problems but I also remain unconvinced that basically red-shirting a year on the bench is good for a player's development. I'd prefer to address this year's problems this year. Maybe Dillard was always going to bust. But I don't think not having a clear way to get out there and play helped that either. Same with Davion Taylor. Hopefully this coaching staff is better at developing than the last one. But you wouldn't think it would be very hard to find guys who can find the field on a 4-11-1 team.

I'd much rather trade up today than down. 8 Day 3 guys aren't going to make our team and/or the practice squad.
