That game was amazing, especially considering the impact on the Steelers. Overall some great games with so many playoff implications. But I was on the edge of my seat with the Raiders and chargers. Talk about down to the wire on who the seventh team would be. If the Raiders had just run out the clock to a tie they still would have been in. Crazy.

It's the D playbook that needs to open up. Every blitz they've got in the playbook. Zone and man. Press coverage. Blitz of press. Play the receivers tight. Be very creative and aggressive on 3rd down and 5 or more to go. Up the middle pressure from LB. No bend and break. We know Brady will bend them right back into end zone. They need to play for change of position, even if that surrenders a couple of long TD passes. We know against top QBs their bend but don't break leads to a score every time down the field and just wears down the D and keeps the O from getting in the groove. A deep score is less harmful than a 6-minute slow march down the field with virtually uncontested pass catches and failure to stop 5+ yard runs. We need a D which doesn't look at all like the D we saw in first half of season and shows things not on our tape. Then change direction again at half time.

Well, Gannon is a finalist for the Denver HC job, that is our best chance at a defense from this century.

Josh Sweat (illness) will not play today. The Eagles say he was in the hospital on Tuesday for a medical procedure because of a “life threatening” situation.

Any chance someone hires Gannon at halftime? If you just pick someone in the audience with an Eagles Jersey they at least wouldn’t SHOW that 4 are rushing on every play. Brady doesn’t even need to read the defense.

Well, they were certainly never going win a 13-10 game. Or even a 3-0 game.

The Tampa Bay defense is too quick for them. The Eagles seem to think they can dip back and beat them to the outside and they can't. Hurts having problems because the receivers aren't open early. Our D having a problem both because they can't stop the run and because the Tampa Bay receivers are always open early, because we play them too loose. Having Reagor as a receiver is a problem. Barnett is just a stupid player. The announcers argue that his roughing penalty wasn't a low hit, but it certainly was a late hit. A lot of guys on this team need to be replaced. Gannon is one of them.

I'm not sure what this game has proven. I guess since almost every player has looked bad, then it's probably on the coaches?

Instead of "tanking" I think the team should have tried to run an actual offense instead of playing the running offense against bad teams with no QB. For as much as people are saying a payoff game is good experience... spending multiple games trying to develop Hurts into an actual passing game seems more productive than a single game where they are clearly over-matched in every aspect.

They’re just not that good. The defense has a hole in the kiddie of it with the terrible linebackers that they have. Their poor play also exposes the defensive backs. The Birds ‘ top three draft picks should be on the defense.

I never expected them to be good and agree that at least 2 picks should be on the defensive side. However, they do have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball and simply didn't get much done.

I just don't understand the optimism for a playoff birth when the team could have gotten a lot more experience by trying to build talent or a system instead of trying to beat bad teams.

I didn't want the team to tank, but "tanking" did feel familiar as I don't want to see middling team (which is what the Sixers were with MCW) and would rather see a push to being a competitive team.

LD, they played up until the Raiders game trying to build a passing system. It sucked, and most fans hated it. Then they did what they had the ability to do.

It remains an open question of whether an offense led by a running QB can win it all in today's NFL. If one does, it will have to be an efficient passing offense that uses the run to set up big plays through the air.

I think LD's point is interesting though. That they could have gone 7-10 while better trying to develop Hurts and the passing offense instead of playing to their strengths with a running game that was the best way to win (whether against good teams or bad) when winning really didn't need to be the goal this year.

And that goes for breaking in a first-time DC too. Short of making another Schwartz-like hire (where the head coach basically has no say) I think you have to let this coaching staff improve and adjust (while also changing personnel). They are either going to get there by Year 3 or they won't but wholesale changes after Years 1 or 2 won't get the team there either (and it also didn't fix anything when Lurie forced Pederson to change his staff repeatedly, so I suspect he won't be as influenced by fan outcry this time. Assuming Gannon doesn't become a HC of course).
