I don’t know, that seems cheap to me. At times I think Maddox is our best CB, $7.5M / year seems like a good deal.

Slay should be a DPOY candidate, so this comment seems like a massive reach.

Certainly the last few games he has been great, but for the first 6-8 games he was giving up the same easy completions that everyone else was. I actually was very disappointed with Slay’s play for most of the season, but as we all know that may have been more of a scheme that seemed designed for failure than maybe any individual players. I thought through 6 games really only Maddox looked good in our secondary, and even he was only average. I think it was more a lack of aggressiveness on the defense that made everyone look bad (except Hargrave)

Certainly in the last 2-4 games Slay has really stepped up (and the scheme is much less passive)

i told you they were done (saints). They planned on focusing on Howard all week and when he went out, they did not know what to do on defense. Brilliant strategy!

Before today Maddox had more receptions allowed than Slay despite the snap count differences (which was 92% vs 63%). I realize Slay has a much bigger cap hit, but to say Maddox is the best CB on the team doesn't seem remotely true.

The change in scheme was key. There is nothing the DBs can do to stop the short passes, if the coach persists in playing a permanent prevent defense. Couldn't stop the run, couldn't stop the pass. The early games were entirely on the coaches. Of course, they also played against better QBs in the early games.

The draft is looking less positive after the last few weeks of wins for all three teams. Up to 8 (Miami), 11 and 16 (Colts). But its more enjoyable to go into games believing they can win games. I wonder how much of the recent form is down to improvement by the players and coaching staff, and how much is down to playing bad/mediocre teams?
The next five games are very winnable 3-6 Giants *2, 4-6 Football team *2, 2-8 Jets. By Week 18 the Cowboys will have locked up the division (though they may still be playing for seeding). Does a 10-7 Eagles team make the wild card? 9-8?

Well, this is going to be a deep defensive draft, so there will be good value all the way through the first round. If there is a can't miss stud in the top 5, they can probably trade in there easily, but I'd rather they use all their picks.

Just when it was starting to look like Hurts might be the answer at QB for the future, he throws out an absolute clunker vs. The Giants..

Of course, if Reagor catches one of the two passes that hit him in the hands at the end of the game, they pull it out despite Hurts' sub-par game. In total, four of his incompletions were Reagor drops. Loss was as much on Sirianni for stupid play calls (especially abandoning the run again and not targeting Goedert and Smith) as it was on Hurts and Reagor, too.

Gotta win the next 5 if they want to make the playoffs, which teams this inconsistent don't often do. They lost their margin for error yesterday.

Thank Goodness this playoff talk is over, the Eagles are not a playoff team yet. All of this talk of a "soft" schedule for their remaining games is reminiscent of the end of the Phils season. How did that work out. The games are winnable but those NFC east games are always tough. Defensive front line didn't have any sacks. They played very well against the run. i hate to say this but Jones outplayed Hurts.They are still learning and this is a step backward. Hopefully they bounce back next week. Does everyone still want Reager over Jefferson from that draft? I worry about Howie and next year's draft. they have a great chance to help a growing team. will he outsmart everyone else again and bungle it?

Yeah I still don't care if they make the playoffs but it was fun to briefly imagine not only that, but actually catching the Cowboys. Could still happen. But the main point of the season is still finding things out, development, and draft position. If they pick 10th instead of 18th I'm all for it (regardless of the other two picks).

Nothing anyone can do about Howie. His coaches, his drafts (along with Lurie).

I don't think anyone at the time wanted Reagor over Jefferson on draft day. Of course no one does now.

Hurts did not have a good game, but looking at the one video i saw on his first interception, watkins was literally grabbed around the waist and pulled back by the defender. if hurts was throwing to a spot where he thought the receiver was to be then i guess he gets a little break on that. on the other hand, HOW can that be missed in the middle of the field! Who's responsibility is to see that? Back Judge? He should be looked into. where does he live? did he have a stake in the game? That was absolutely brutal. No excuse for that.

I didn't see a good replay, but it seemed obvious that Watkins was held back or stopped and I didn't think it was on Hurts. Now the other two INTs.....

Definitely PI. Hurts didn't have a good game, but if this is called and the long drive in the 2nd where Herbig had 2 holding penalties and Ward dropped a ball in the endzone, then the 4th quarter could be much different. Also, lost on that long drive that ended with terrible INT, Reagor had a really good catch to put them at goal to go on the 5. Obviously his drops at the end of the game were bad (or at least one), but I didn't hear a lot of talk about that catch.

From what I understand, Hurts is given one read and a secondary option. If neither are open, then he has to scramble and find somewhere to throw the ball. I'm guessing Reagor was his outlet in this scenario, but even if it was Scott, then by the time Hurts would assess that Quez wasn't viable, then Scott wasn't that open. The LB playing the zone towards the left sideline would be right on Scott by the time the ball got to him.
