Eagles 2019-2020 Season

It's a great triumph to reach the playoffs and oust Dallas with the patchwork team which is now the Eagles. The kids have shown a lot of spunk and performed surprisingly well. The DBs have looked a lot better in recent games. The pass rush has been better, but I think the DBs have been asked to play a little tighter. I don't see how we possibly win the next game. With the young guys performing, we can save some $ on RBs and DBs next year and should consider a cheaper back-up QB.

Wonderful to watch the team the last two weeks. Really fun. Nothing to lose next week vs. the Seahawks, (at this point, Niners lead 13-0 at half and have been dominating).

I'm convinced if Greg Ward was on the team all year instead of Nelson Agholor for example this team would be at least 11-5 and possibly as high as 14-2.
The losses against Atlanta and Detroit were games in which the football appeared to be covered in soap and the games against Miami, New England and Seattle were all one score losses.

They were blown out in Minnesota and Dallas but every other loss was close. I don't expect the Eagles to win a playoff game but I wouldn't be shocked if they could win at home. Though that depends on the status of Ertz, Johnson, Sanders and Brooks. There was some suggestion that DeSean could be back if they made the playoffs but at this point I am assuming that is unlikely.

Just looked it up, DeSean can return in the second round if they make it there and if he is healthy.

Happy to get another shot at the Seahawks at home. It's a nice story. I still view this like a bowl game - extra practice, some guys stepping up, and it turns out it was an important (and pretty darn good) season for Wentz who has never been in a playoff game.

Might not be the Seahawks. They have the ball late with a chance to win. Wilson is so good, I think I'd be worried about how well he'd play against our defense. Bring on the Niners. Or the Seahawks. Nice to get a home game.

Meanwhile on Black Monday, the Giants fire Shurmer. By the time the dust settles, Pederson--with good reason--may be the only NFC East coach left standing. Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me if Garrett ends up dangling for some time while Jones tries to make up his mind, kind of like Kapler with Middleton.

Brooks out for the season with a shoulder separation and complications requiring surgery.

Ertz, Mills, Sanders, Johnson, and Maddox all day-to-day with a chance to play vs. the Seahawks. I didn't hear Agholor mentioned at the presser today, but his injury seems more serious than day-to-day. Jackson back in the divisional round if we make it.

Garret and entire staff pretty much gone, no hesitation. It is indeed interesting (and, I think, good!) that the Eagles have stability. The Giants are probably the team to worry about going forward, Rhule would be a good hire. The Cowboys will always have Cowboys problems.

I disagree a bit. If the Giants would have lost to the Skins, then I would maybe agree. Keeping the Giants away from Chase Young is a good thing. I am not sure Daniel Jones is their franchise QB, but if he is, then keeping the best pass rusher away from them is a great result. It sucks that Young will be on the Redskins, but they are a QB, OL, coach, GM, and owner away from being a good franchise.

The biggest impediment to the success of the Cowboys is their owner. I doubt that they’ll win a SB with him constantly getting his hands in the pot with the team. Now if he was to be like Kraft and get out of the way, they could be a problem.

I hate to speak critically of the dead but I always said the same thing about the likelihood Flyers winning the Stanley Cup with Ed Snyder as the boss.

There some talk that they may target Urban Meyer. Aside from Jimmy Johnson and Pete Carroll, the top collegiate coaches rarely succeed in the NFL.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, I feel like the college coach thing is very risky and doubly so when Jerry's still in charge. Whereas if the Giants can get Matt Rhule he has a ton of NFL experience and just seems to know how to do the CEO side of the job. Cowboys still the better team in the short-term but - assuming Jones isn't a bust - Giants could come around 2021-2022. Of course we have no idea what the Eagles will be by then either.

Snider was probably still better than the Flyers current corporate/owner. But we're seeing a lot of Mr. Snider in Mr. Middleton too.

I don't disagree with the owner part, but if they employ a coach that makes good in game decisions, then they will be very close to a SB. The Cowboys simply have too much talent to be bad and are a good in-game coach away from being a competitor.

Regardless of the owner.. swap Garrett with Pederson this season and I would assume the Cowboys have a better chance at success than the Eagles. Do you disagree?

They have a lot of free agents though. Many of whom will still be back I'm sure, but nothing's certain. A few big potential retirees as well. And as we've seen with the Eagles, a change in coordinator and QB coach can also lead to unpredictable results.

I think if Jerry gets seduced by the big-name college coach it will backfire. If he goes for a proven NFL guy that guy has to want to work for Jerry.

A great question about Pederson but I'm not so sure. Its not like he was perfect this year. I think the Cowboys were so inconsistent because of Jerry, and Garret's contract status, not Garret's in-game coaching ability (which is such a small part of what NFL head coaches really do). If Doug gets credit for these last four wins he also gets blame for the 3-4 the Eagles had no business losing... not that different from Garrett. And they split the season series so that's a wash.
