PHILLIES ANNOUNCE SPRING TRAINING NON-ROSTER INVITEES
The Phillies have signed four players to minor league contracts with invitations to attend major league spring training as non-roster invitees:
Sean Burnett, LHP – A veteran of nine major league seasons, Burnett posted a 3.18 ERA in 10 games last season for the Washington Nationals. A native of Dunedin, Fla., Burnett has held left-handed hitters to a .225 average in his career, pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2004, 2008-09), Washington Nationals (2009-12, 2016) and Los Angeles Angels (2013-14). The 34-year-old was originally selected 19th overall by the Pirates in the June 2000 draft.
Hector Gomez, INF – Gomez played in 115 games last season for the SK Wyverns of the Korean Baseball Organization. The 28-year-old batted .283 with a .326 on-base percentage and .493 slugging percentage with 31 doubles and 21 home runs in 484 plate appearances. Signed by the Colorado Rockies as an amateur free agent in 2004, Gomez has appeared in 83 major league games with the Rockies (2011) and Milwaukee Brewers (2014-15).
Pedro Florimon, INF – Florimon, 30, spent the majority of last season with triple-A Indianapolis, where he played six different positions (2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, RF) and batted .255 with 12 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 36 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 107 games. He also appeared in 18 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates between September and October. A native of La Romana, Dominican Republic, Florimon has played 13 seasons of professional baseball, including six in the majors with the Baltimore Orioles (2011), Minnesota Twins (2012-14) and Pirates (2015-16).
Daniel Nava, OF – The 33-year-old Nava split the 2016 season between the Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals organizations. He has appeared in 509 games over parts of six major league seasons, batting .262 with 95 doubles, 25 home runs and 185 RBI with the Boston Red Sox (2010, 2012-15), Tampa Bay Rays (2015), Angels and Royals. Nava has a career .303 average and .399 on-base percentage in 436 minor league games as well. He was originally signed as a minor league free agent by the Red Sox in 2008.
Additionally, the Phillies have acquired right-handed pitcher Mario Sanchez as the player to be named later from the Washington Nationals, completing the trade for right-hander Jimmy Cordero on November 22.
