The Baptist pastor and sociologists argued caring for the poor was an integral part of proclaiming the gospel.

I saw him speak once at SJU back in the Aughts. I bought his book that I still need to read. An Evangelical who embraced social morality and social justice, not just personal morality.

He spoke at my commencement. In a world where high profile people mascaraed as Christians, Tony certainly seemed to have a message genuine to the faith. You did good Tony.

Not sure I am quoting properly as I have never tried before, but had to comment on the passing of Tony Campolo. As a graduate of Eastern College (now university), I saw many lectures and talks by Tony. He was a compassionate man for all people and his brand (if you can call it that) of Christianity was far different than that of Jerry Falwell. My love of all things Philly started at Eastern and my compassion for my fellow man and planet was nurtured there by Tony’s philosophy and example. You will be missed Tony - you made a difference in my life. Just had to express that to the cosmos.
