An interesting personal note, during his 2002 retrial, I ventured into the attorney's lounge at the Philadelphia Criminal Justice Center after one of my hearings to research some things on the court's mainfraome. At that time, his lawyers were gathered there for a strategizing session. I got to be an interested proverbial "fly on the wall".

Always liked Scarpati when I was very, very young. From back in the day when the free safety was primarily responsible for out-reading the QB and arriving just in time to make the interception, ala Bill Bradley a couple years later.

My first exposure to Dennehy was in Cocoon when he played the gentle and benevolent leader of the aliens. Hence, it was a bit jarring for me to see him in his more customary role as a thug and a heavy, roles he played well. In addition to being a physically large and imposing person, he could have a glare that terrifies you.

Philsmania, my first (apparently, i.e., it's been a while) movie exposure to Brian Dennehy was in First Blood and then Gorky Park. I still haven't seen Cocoon!

For me, his most memorable role was in an episode of the West Wing - an alcoholic, overbearing, mean-looking SOB Senator for Florida. It was a great episode.
