It's still a remarkable thing to be royalty when you are a school that size. Even if they have Philly and history and great recruiting turf and the pro arena to make them just a bit more of a power. Certainly more than Xavier (which is still an equally impressive program) and Gonzaga (maybe slightly less so, big fish but they did get over the hump. If they leave the conference that will probably help).
The college to pro thing is still tough, huh? Stevens the first good one in a while. So often, I think, those choices have failed because the franchises were also terrible. What NBA team would Wright actually want to coach at this point, assuming he really is intrigued by the challenge and money, compared to the big change in lifestyle and workload. Where's he willing to live?
Of course a year ago he still would have been considered a possible future Sixers coach.
If you Google there are already like 10 stories on this subject today, and I think the Inquirer did one even before the Final Four.
