PHILLIES’ MORTON TO HAVE SURGERY
Phillies right-hander Charlie Morton is scheduled for surgery on his left hamstring on May 2, Vice President & General Manager Matt Klentak announced today. The surgery will be performed by Head Team Physician Dr. Steven Cohen.
An MRI performed on Monday revealed that Morton tore his left hamstring in a start on April 23 at Milwaukee while running down the first base line on a sacrifice bunt attempt. He was subsequently placed on the 15-day disabled list the next day. In four starts for the Phillies this season, Morton is 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 17.1 innings pitched.
The recovery time for Morton, 32, is expected to be six to eight months. The Phillies will announce a starter for Friday’s game against Cleveland later this week.
