I'm sure that's absolutely the case, but also not a big deal to have to do it a few times. Also, I believe he works for the Phillies whereas the TV announcers work for Comcast. Either way, probably a decent raise for five nights, like getting called up (or at least getting 40-man AAA pay).
I've kind of softened on McCarthy. I guess familiarity breeds acceptance rather than contempt. He's obviously a good guy. He's not honey-voiced like Harry but he's certainly not incapable of describing the action. I was no old enough to experience this first hand but no one was happy about Harry coming in originally either. Of course Tom's been at it for 15 years now.
Certainly there has not been a game situation that made it malpractice to not have guys on IL though I guess they could have come close when Harper and Casty also got banged up.
