(Maybe he prefers radio cause it's more about baseball than the rest of the stuff they do on TV, the eating of sandwiches and the interviews with someone with something to promote for a half inning and there's less of those obligations on the road games?)

I'm sure that's absolutely the case, but also not a big deal to have to do it a few times. Also, I believe he works for the Phillies whereas the TV announcers work for Comcast. Either way, probably a decent raise for five nights, like getting called up (or at least getting 40-man AAA pay).

I've kind of softened on McCarthy. I guess familiarity breeds acceptance rather than contempt. He's obviously a good guy. He's not honey-voiced like Harry but he's certainly not incapable of describing the action. I was no old enough to experience this first hand but no one was happy about Harry coming in originally either. Of course Tom's been at it for 15 years now.

Certainly there has not been a game situation that made it malpractice to not have guys on IL though I guess they could have come close when Harper and Casty also got banged up.

By the end of week I fell in love. In the playoffs, was my favorite Phillies moment.

Well that might be how you remember it but Frantzke had been on the radio broadcast since 2006 and was calling eight out of nine innings by 2008. Harry was mostly on TV at that point (it was also Scott Graham, who we all still miss, rather than Harry as the primary radio announcer for years before that).

Nelson DFA

The additions of Cuas and Garcia, the DFA of Nelson, and the move of Castro to the 60-day IL leave the 40-man roster full (at 40). It's been reported that Seth Johnson is coming up to start tomorrow; presumably we'll see another roster change after the game tonight.

I don't know if there was any drama or just the drama of a contract negotiation, but they cut him loose and that was that. And there hasn't ever been an open PBP job since.

Pat McCarthy works for the Mets now incidentally, which is why he's not available to sub for his Dad again (at the time he was with the Iron Pigs).

Scott Graham was doing the Eagles preseason games this year according to the guys I was sitting with at lunch a few weeks ago.

Probably because Garcia is less of a risk (however small) to get claimed when he goes back.

And Lazar still has to go down for Johnson today yeah? Unless they do something dramatic, i.e. Walker. Still don't think having Walker as your scrub reliever is any worse than having Nick Nelson or Covey or Phillips or Mercado (which is to say it is demonstrably untrue they actually have someone better for that role, which is a different question than whether that caliber of reliever should have entered yesterday's game).

Yeah Scott Graham replaced Harry at NFL Films, works for Westwood One and does a lot of other football. This is his sixth year doing Eagles pre-season.

I wouldn't give up on Mercado yet. They need to work on his fastball command and I see him as a reliever, but there’s something there if they can tease it out.

I’d hate to have to send Lazar down and not be able to recall him for 15 days. I wonder what JT or Harper’s status really is and if either would benefit from a 10 day DL.
