I don't disagree, but he has 120, maybe even 150 (if he excels) innings in him, not 80. So he can spare 40-50 in AAA (that would be closer to 1/3 than the 1/4 Matt suggests, if they can do the latter, great).
Otherwise, he's Stephen Strasburg (and a lot sooner than September).
This certainly makes sense too but I'm not sure the cold weather is really a big enough issue to essentially shut the kid down for an extra four weeks (or not let him face good enough hitters).
It will sort itself out. And, let's face it, odds are Taijuan Walker is the still guy who fills the 5th spot, not another Turnbull or Allard. It will be interesting to see just who they bring in on those type of deals, but also still not impossible they sign or trade for a bigger pitcher. And Painter could just as easily wind up making his debut when one of the current Top 4 goes on the IL
