Yea, but we arenāt (talking about Harrisā replacement). George replaces Harris, in cost and in expectation, but not position (George should be a more consistent threat). What we will be missing from Harris is his rebounding, that is why we need a PF.
I expect (unfortunately) that he will be a starter and get 25+ minutes, if that is true we are going to be an extremely weak rebounding team. Only real Embiid can be above average under the boards (among the guys expected to play starter minutes) so once again we are setting him up for a heavy workload, and we all know what happens when he has a heavy workload in the regular season.
Martinās cap money was the chance to get Embiid help, instead we got a below average offensive, average defensive, below average rebounding, undersized PF. Diceman says I am too hung up on positions, and yes, the game has changed, he is right. But what are we going to do when an opponent puts a 6ā10ā, high energy Offensive rebounder on the court at the PF. Martin is 6ā5ā, which is the size of a SG, and he has no resemblance to Barkley. That is why he averages āI was on the courtā rebounding numbers.
We had very little cap room left and we had a big need. Martin is a complete miss on that need IMHO, he is just a lesser version of George. Now if he ends up being his backup, then I see it different, but I donāt think that is the plan. (And if the plan is to play George at PF that is even worse, except against teams that also really only put one ābigā on the court).
