Well, between health and not playing he only got 35 games last year. He will probably play a little until McCain is back and then transition to more of an emergency option or even end up off the roster eventually. Obviously he and Nurse have done a lot together. And, Philly sentiment. Maybe there is for real a non-playing job in his future.

Sixers waived Alex Reese and signed Dominick Barlow (formerly a Spur and Hawk). He’s bounced between the NBA and the G-league for 3 seasons. He’s only 22(!!) and a non-shooting 4 who defends well, rebounds well, and converts well. HIs NBA TS% is almost 60%, and it’s over 65% in the G-league. He shoots a few 3s, but so far overall only at about 30%. He can defend 2-4 and sometimes 5--very switchable. Went to St. Joe’s Prep, might be a Sixers fan.

Implying he may not be ready for the start of the season. When would it be in his best interest to retire? They should retire his number that day. One of the greatest Sixers ever should not go out like this.

The story makes you feel for him, but also still makes it pretty clear neither he nor the Sixers really have things figured out. And they all look bad in terms of the stuff about the locker room leak.

I don't think anyone is ready for him to be at his Brandon Roy/Andrew Bynum moment yet. Doubt he's ready to retire and not get paid either. Nor are the Sixers really ready to move on, though that would presumably help them a lot of things don't work out over the next two seasons.

Seems like we're gonna see the future young line-up to start whether they wanted it that way or not!

Sixers can match anything he (Grimes) signs (he’s an RFA). If he doesn’t want to be here long term he’ll take the qualifying offer and reenter the market after 1 year as a UFA.

Details: 1. Qualifying Offer (One-Year, ~$8.7M)
If Grimes accepts the qualifying offer, he guarantees himself ~$8.7M for next season and becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2026, free to sign anywhere

This is the only real lever he has left: gamble on a bigger payday in 2026, but at considerable risk if market conditions or performance or injuries shift unfavorably

2. Sign-and-Trade
A potential route to get more than what Philadelphia’s matching capacity allows—but the Sixers are currently not open to sign‑and‑trade offers due to cap restrictions.

Even if they changed their situation, construction of such a deal is complex under salary-matching and “base-year compensation” rules, limiting eligible trade partners.

3.3. Offer Sheet From Another Team
As a restricted free agent, Grimes could sign an offer sheet elsewhere—but the Sixers hold the right to match.
Given limited cap space around the league, no team beyond maybe the Nets has the ability or motivation to present an offer the Sixers wouldn’t match.

He is one of four unsigned RFAs. From what The Athletic story on this said, he's not getting an offer sheet because no other teams have the cap room to give him what he wants either. But don't you think if it comes to that the Sixers will just grit their teeth and match? It could also just end with him taking the $8.7 million QO and becoming an unrestricted FA next year, though the Sixers probably don't want that either.

Most of the people polled in this story don't think he's worth that much more than a mid-level exception.

Can Quentin Grimes and the Sixers find a deal that works for both?

Twelve of the 16 proposed average annual salaries between $12 million and $16.7 million. One front-office staffer who is especially high on Grimes suggested a four-year, $75 million deal, the most total money and the highest average annual value ($18.8 million) anyone in the poll mentioned.

On the other side of the spectrum was an executive who considered Grimes worth just $30 million over three years, $10 million in average annual value, the lowest number in the poll.

I was typing as PC was posting. But even the article BE shared says there is almost no other outcome besides him staying. It also says him taking the QO could be a worse idea for him than the Sixers, as he might find the money's not there next year either.

This may not mean anything to the sixers but with the Clippers not having many first round picks...maybe?

The clippers should be a bad team by the time the sixers own their 28 first and then have the ability to swap in 29.
