I am not that fond of the dea of Paul George signing, but I guess it is the only big move left that can happen. Does it make the Sixers championship contenders?

Only if they can keep Embiid Healthy. I guess George takes some of the load off carrying the team during the season, maybe it helps.

If they don’t sign George than I think the Embiid Era certainly ends without any deep playoff runs. I guess it is worth a try, George just is not really the right guy, but he is all that is available.

Gordon signing to try to win a ring; doesn't make sense unless he knows the Sixers are getting PG. George would not be my choice, but it's pretty clear that's what is going to happen.

I am with you on this. George is an older player. Increased risk of injury is in play, along with diminished age-related performance.

George is arguably the best of a number of less than optimal options. The free agent class is old and expensive. But George only costs money, whereas any trades for a younger player would cost assets that are pretty thin for the current state of the franchise.

It seemed pretty likely they were going to just repeat the last 3-4 years regardless, both in terms of players moves and results. It's already probably a short window for Joel; George at least cracks it open wider (just not for longer). There wasn't much else out there. The Sixers do have tradeable assets but for who (especially with Bridges off the market).

As with Harden, they will at least be better over the full season, and during the games/minutes without Joel. But also as with Harden who knows if they'll have enough health and performance overall to get win the East (or even get past the second round finally).

I agree. Standing pat or getting some lesser players was just going to repeat the last few seasons.

Had to try it, not signing him was the same as just throwing in the towel.

At least we have a solid backup center to let Embiid rest (again). This time let’s not trade him as a throw in to balance the salaries in a trade

Now let’s get the supporting cast. Eric Gordon is essentially a waste of a roster spot, but he is signed. Would be nice to get Oubre back, but I think he will get more than we can offer.

Get the Maxey deal done and with those guys maybe some of the better role players will be excited to try and chase a ring and sign for the trade exemptions.

Oubre already agreed to a contract - 2 years, 16.3m with a player option 3rd year.

Maxey agreed on a five year, 205m contract.

Its been said, but to echo, paul george was the best option on the market, there are not other better options. Sixers doing everything right given the market.

Reed can be traded for a $15 million contract still (according to Bodner). Too useful as a trade chip to be cut I think.

They still have 6 slots left, 5 if Justin Edwards makes the team (which I think he will). I would guess Lowry is back if he will play for the vet minimum. Would love Batum but it seems unlikely since an NBA national guy posted he won't be bak on the Sixers. Joel needs to talk to him...

PG13 is no longer PG13...unless they un-retire Wilt's Jersey.

Glad to see Morey stay aggressive (not that he had a choice), but it does feel like a last gasp effort to win something with Embiid.

We'll have to see how things go. If they all stay healthy, it will be all-in win now mode for a ring. Getting to the 2nd round is NOT enough because the future is going to be ugly once this crew leaves town. Being able to hang a banner is really the only way this is worth it.

If they do not stay healthy, then it will get ugly sooner unfortunately, but we're pretty used to that at this point.

All that said, I'm very happy to see the backside of Tobias Harris. Good riddance and good luck to Detroit.

Would love Batum but it seems unlikely since an NBA national guy posted he won't be bak on the Sixers.

i'm hoping that just means the sixers renounced his rights to clear cap space for PG signing. by doing that, i think they are on equal footing in free agency as every other team, but doesn't mean he can't come back.

Sixers have two future clippers firsts & a pick swap, when the sixers need to rebuild so will the clippers, those might be nice draft picks to start over.

As long as Morey keeps the unprotected Clipper draft picks he can spend the owner's money for a last hurrah run before they blow it up.

Tobias Harris to the Pistons at 2/52. I was somewhat hoping for a sign/ trade so we could at least get a couple picks and maybe a solid role player.

Harris is hated by Sixers fans, but I always found him as a solid, just not spectacular player. He obviously had a horrible contract and yes, he did disappear at times (some of them crucial). He would have made a great 4th option on this team as he proved he would do dirty work and didn’t need / want to be a star. No way they could sign him to that deal and go way over the 2nd threshold (they may anyway)

I liked the guy. Most didn’t. Wasn’t his fault the sixers misread what he was.

Harris is a very likable human being, it's not his fault the Sixers overpaid him. 2/52 is absurd, though, for what he is as a player. Harris will have made more than $300M by the time he retires, and he has never been much more than an average NBA player. Nice job if you can get it!
