I don't even think there's a PR hit to take, the product is poor, if they dump Guerschon or whomever half the fan base would understand and 25% of the fans aren't coming either way.

As far as we know there was nothing they could do to get to the conference finals with Joel. But you may as well try and get into the thing. Probably don't want to trade '28 picks and can't really upgrade on any starters but can maybe move around a few pieces. Force the team that takes Martin to take someone else and then replace them somehow.

I reckon the Eagles are already enough of distraction for the next 13 days (hopefully all 13, including the parade).

Without clicking, I assume the logic is to get the players in more games, but with fewer minutes. I still watch way more college basketball than pro basketball so this doesn't really faze me (and WNBA is also already 40 minutes).

Sixers win again tonight, 4th in a row without half the team. Embiid practiced tonight. So I guess he is coming back soon. Whether he stays is another question, as I’m still not sure what the knee problem really is.

When Embiid does come back, he will be incredibly out of game shape. There will be a month of him adjusting and playing himself into appropriate condition to really play, even if he doesn't sit once a week. I don't know what the future looks like for the Sixers this season, but I really don't see a good path for them to winning in the playoffs.

If it was really that simple don't you think they'd just do it? Nobody likes them (though no attempt seems to have been made to revise the CBA either). There are obviously several factors (building availability, TV contracts, wanting to play multiple weekend games regularly, more travel when games are more spread out) keeping them from doing it. And of course they will never just play a shorter schedule.

Bet the 40 minute games would just have an extra 8 minutes of TV commercials.

I think there is no chance they go to 40 minute games. Too much damage to per-game records, and too much outcry from fans who will be losing "product".

However, I really can't believe the NBA couldn't tweak the schedule to drastically reduce or eliminate back-to-back games, despite the arena restrictions and network wishes. The might have to lengthen the season by a week, but I think they could do it without the extra week. It would increase travel costs as is suggested by z. But if they are really interested in player safety and product quality that is a huge step.

Certainly they could do more. But they've already reduced them by around 20-25% overall (compared to a decade ago). It's just not that simple to schedule thousands of dates in 30 cities when you include hockey teams, concerts, lengthy absences from your own arena for a rodeo (Spurs) or ice shows (Sixers), etc. And NHL teams have just as many!

I'll bet AI could generate a better schedule. If they were genuinely committed to solving the problem they could. Unfortunately there is really little incentive to solve it.

It would be nice if games started on time.
If they want to get games to finish within a certain amount of time then they should look at what MLB did and find ways to eliminate time when the clock is stopped.
My biggest issue with the NBA is that it can take 30 minutes to play the last 2-3 minutes. They could move to the Elam ending or find some other solution which would hopefully limit the fouling down the stretch.

I can't see this having too much bandwidth. The 2 1/2 hour game is not oppressive if they can keep the endgames moving. Reviews and challenges just take more time these days.

I finally did read the article and Silver mentioned that fact that 40 minutes is standard otherwise (college, international, women's) as well as the thing every pro league wants these days, to pander to shorter attention spans.

I don't imagine anything will come of it because it would have an effect on player pay/roster construction too but the record book thing doesn't strike me as that big a deal. These things happen in every sport and other rule changes already affected he sanctity of that.

Why the arbitrary one month? He has never been in appropriate condition in his career. You may as well make it 7 months, 7 years, 7 decades.

Or better, you could have written one month until he injures his knee, his face, his wrist, his back or just gets the flu, a cold or a sinus infection.

Sixers lose a crazy game 137-134 to Denver in which they gave up 66% shooting on the night, 53% behind the line. I can’t think of when I have ever seen 66%.

Just talking off the cuff here, not looking at salary ramifications, but why the hell didn't the Sixers go get Doncic?

Even if Embiid doesn't have as much value as AD, could we have sold them on Embiid plus????

Would have been a great way to get out of the hell we are currently in with Embiid.
