We may reach that point, but thus far we haven't approached the cold damp of many April Reading games. They play night games and some have been absolutely brutal. Reading isn't even the coldest Eastern League city.

Well, not this year it doesn't. Two Texas teams and one Arizona team and they all have roofs to boot.

But of course they want more prime time games. Not even really up to MLB, I'm sure the number of prime-time and non-competing games is guaranteed in the contracts.

Yes, if you merely roll the clock back to the 2022 National League Division Series, these 2022-23 Phillies have already won more postseason games in their home park than 33 years’ worth of Phillies teams won in their previous home park. And yeah, yeah, I know there are more rounds and series now. But …

The Phillies did win a World Series in that other park (in 1980) … and made it to two other World Series (in 1983 and 1993) … and won more than 100 games in two other seasons (1976 and ’77). So there was an eight-season stretch (1976-83) in there that was widely considered at the time to be the greatest run in franchise history. And that team still won fewer postseason games, in that whole run, than the current Phillies have won at the Bank in their last 14 home games.

your're correct A town. I have been to those games in reading. bundle up. but also I'm sure that some of the games in Portland (even though the schedule tries to stay away early), and Fisher Cats have been a little more brutal. and it I remember correctly, there used to be a Canadian team in the league.

I think the Phillies will clinch the NLCS on Friday or Saturday. We'll know tonight if the ALCS is going 5,6 or 7. If the Rangers win tonight, the series is going 5,6 or 7. If the Astros win, the series is going 6 or 7. My biggest concern is that World Series Game 1 doesn't start until a week from Friday. If the Phillies sweep, they will have 6 days of rest. If they win it on Saturday, they have five days of rest. I'm afraid that they'll be cold. With that said, wasn't there 12 days of rest after the end of the NLCS and the start of the World Series? That seems crazy, but I don't remember it that way...

EDIT: The Phillies had 4 days of rest between the NLCS and World Series.

That concerns me as well, BUT in 2008 the Phillies had a six days off after disposing of the Dodgers in five games while the Rays went to game seven against the Red Sox and had only two days off before the WS started. In the end, the Phillies clearly didn't get cold and dispensed with the Rays in five.

I hope they clinch. my concern is that they almost never hit a first time facing pitcher especially with a high ERA. They also are not good against a team that throws a bull pen game. Can't see the pitcher a third time around. Although they are swinging hot bats. plus the AL will not be a sweep now. I see a loss today and hope they don't come back to Philly down 3-2. Keep it going.

I will take a sweep and let the other series go 7 games. Rest is over rated in my opinion and seems to be a built in excuse when things don't go as hoped.

We went over this a few months ago, it's just not true. The part about the bullpen game probably isn't either because facing a bullpen still beats facing a top starter.

Rest and re-setting the rotation far more important than worrying about rust. I want the ALCS to go seven and I want the Astros to win (giving us home field and forcing the other team to travel immediately). I don't want the Phillies to have to play a Game 6 because if you have to play a Game 6 you might have to play a Game 7. And also if it goes 6 or 7 we could see Walker a lot earlier in the World Series, even with a few off-days.

An interesting game today for some of my family members. Pfaadt played high school ball and is one of my younger cousin’s best friends. My cousin is of course a Phillies’ fan. I think he and my uncle are probably hoping for a good outing from Brandon and then the Phillies to win it against the Dback’s bullpen.

Incidentally Ranger started two Phillies wins against Arizona this year (but didn't get the W in either). Allowed five runs in a 6-5 win at home in May; pitched a seven-inning shutout in what wound up a 4-3 game in Arizona in June (Seranthony allowed all three runs).

An interesting stat, though of course there also haven't been that many of seven-gamers (since NLCS was best-of-five until 1985 and well, the Phillies didn't make the playoffs that often since then).

1980 - went up 2-0, lost Game 3 and 4, took Game 5 in KC and you know the rest.

1983 -Phillies won Game 1 then lost four in a row

1993 - Atlanta and Toronto series both started 1-1

2008 - Phils up 2-0 to Dodgers, lost Game 3. Worked out. WS with Tampa started 1-1. Worked out.

2009 - Both rounds started 1-1 (only one worked out).

2010 - Giants series started 1-1

I remember the 1983 series well. The Phils won the first game in Baltimore and after the final out Al Holland said to the catcher, coming off the mound, "That's one", with 1 pointer finger up. Cockiness turned the series around.

Holland was always cocky. In reality, it was that the Wheeze Kids were outmatched. They couldn't hit Baltimore's pitching. Bodicker, Palmer, Davis, and McGregor were tough. They did get two runs off McGregor in game 1, but he shut them out, pitching a complete game, in game 5.
