Truly one of the classiest guys to ever play in MLB. How much of his money did he spend on an orphange? I know he and his wife divorced years ago, but I believe they both kept doing things for kids.

I just remember the oddity that he was our “clincher” for a few years. He pitched the games that won things for us (except the WS).

not completely unheard of. David Eckstein turned down his nomination the the Cards version of the WOF this year

Yeah I'd say it's still pretty unusual. And unlike with Eckstein (who wouldn't even qualify for the Phillies' honor even after they lowered the years) there was never a reason given. He just wasn't selected on the first try and never returned. He also quit as a broadcaster after one year. But I believe he turned up at some point last year.

Neither Walker nor Lorenzen has pitched well against the Braves this year.

I presume Suarez will get the start in game 1. There’s 3 off days in this series, so Wheeler can pitch game 2 and 5 if needed. Nola 3 and game 4 Suarez again unless he gets rocked in game 1. Obviously Sanchez can give us some length if needed.

They could still go fewer pitchers in the five-game series especially with that weird extra off-day (NFL avoidance I assume?) Pache probably still gets a start against Fried. And it might be nice to PH Wilson for Marsh (against Hand or Minter) and then put Pache in the field.

If Lorenzen is added and pitches in this series things certainly won't be going well. Walker neither. But Walker surely needed later.

The experience in CBP is simply unforgettable. Mrs. Jazz and I were at the opener, way up in the nosebleeds behind home plate, and the Phans were electric, screaming and high-fiving and leading chants. This is community of the highest sort - passion and joy over a common shared experience.

If they are not going to start Wilson against 2 LHPs they probably don't need him on the roster. Expect them to flip him and Lorenzen. Heck, we might be doing a bullpen game in game 1 of the Atlanta series purposefully. Suarez or Walker gets the start and hopefully they give us 6, but more likely we'll see rotating long relievers going through the lineup one time only. Walker then Suarez/Sanchez then Lorenzen depending on the situation. We won't have Wheeler and Nola until games 2 and 3.

I couldn’t agree more, I was in the nose bleed section in right field last night and it was electric. Post season at the Bank is the most exciting/fun sporting event I’ve experienced.

I agree it's likely that game 1 in Atlanta will be a bullpen game, and that Lorenzen may be needed.

We have a day off after game 1 too. Even more reasons to do a purposeful bullpen game.

We could use everybody but Wheeler and Nola and all the 1-inning relievers have a day off and then Rob could also start any of the longer-use arms in game 4 anyway. There are 2 days off between games 1 and 4.

Maybe we start Ranger and he goes 6 in game 1 and 4. He certainly has earned the chance to do that, but given that he was going to be the early reliever if Nola faltered last night I am guessing both he and the manager are on the same page about using him any time they need him.

I was at both games. I am completely exhausted today but the Phillies certainly did impress. Great starting pitching from Wheeler and Nola and some very timely hitting. The Phillies's runs came despite the fact that both Schwarber and Harper were somewhat quiet in the two games and many of their at-bats did not look good. Here's hoping they get it going against the Braves. Winning that first game was oh so important. I can't help but wonder what Nola would have showed up if the Phillies were desperate. Good to have a break for a couple of days. Start Suarez on Saturday?

The Phillies's runs came despite the fact that both Schwarber and Harper were somewhat quiet in the two games and many of their at-bats did not look good.

They did face almost exclusively left-handed pitching. They both are decent against lefties, but are better against righties.

Other teams obsess about them so much that they also forget they make Turner and Bohm and Castellanos all much better hitters. That 3-batter rule means whatever right-handed bat is between Schwarber and Harper is just going to get lots of good pitches to hit.
