2022 Phillies Spring Training

Yes, Tiger TV is free on MLB as I post. Game tied 3-3 after five innings. Cam Bedrosian gave up two runs on two home runs in the only inning he pitched. Kelly started and pitched two scoreless innings. Tigers scored another off of Bellatti in the fourth. Newberry a 1-2-3 scoreless 5th.

Hall with a two run home run (after a two out single from Bohm) tied the game in the top of the fifth.

It must be "Bring your minor league free agent to work" day. a lot of guys on both sides rotating through that will never play in the big leagues. Muzziotti, Garcia and O'Hoppe all physically look good.

My favorite minor league tradition is when they talk about letting the veterans skip the "long bus rides." But yeah, either way real line-up tomorrow presumably.

They really stretched the rule of bringing at least 3 regulars to every road game today. When one squints you could count Bohm, Maton and maybe Moniak as actual major leaguers. I assume those rules don't apply the first few days here, especially as lots of regulars are in camp late.

Ortiz looked pretty good. Physically too. Ogle also showed some decent stuff. He won't be up at the beginning of the year most likely but should be up at some point. Nice arm from Luis Garcia on a slow grounder. And Darick Hall can hit 'em pretty far when he hits it.

6-6 tie today. No reason for extras.

Of note, Matt Kroon hits a two out, two run home run to tie the game, 6-6, in the top of the 7th. So two 2-run homers today for the Phillies. Tyler Cyr, pitching the sixth managed to only get two outs while giving up 3 runs to give the Tigers the lead at that time, 6-4.

Phillies out hit the Tigers, 12-8. As expected, most of the players expected to be on the opening day roster did not play today.

Not surprisingly, it was good to see baseball again and it looks like my potential boycott of baseball has fizzled out almost before it got started.

Nick Duron (aka pitcher I never heard of) hit 100 mph in his inning. We definitely have a type in terms of relievers we sign.

I was surprised at Ortiz’s physique. He looked more like Bryce Harper than John Krug. He seemed to have a slugger’s body.

I went back to check the game video after your comment on Ortiz- I mean, WOW, that’s an incredible transformation. That could be huge for his game.

Is it a bad sign that Bohm played in today’s game with a slew of guys that will end up in the minors or is it just them trying to get him work? He played today and almost no one else is heading to the ML to start the season.

Just work. There's no player on the major league roster who needs it more than Bohm (and he only barely finished last year on the major league roster). I'm sure Long wanted him to get after it immediately and he was happy to do so.

The second guy would be Didi, but he's of an age, and actually has a track record (even if he can no longer live up to it), that he doesn't have to make that trip.

The Schwarber and Castellanos signings have not been officially announced, pending physicals. The Schwarber physical was probably a bit delayed, because Kyle's wife gave birth the day after he agreed to terms with the Phillies. Bohm started yesterday in Lakeland. The rest of the presumed regular lineup is starting this afternoon.

Really enjoying watching baseball again. Got some chips & salsa, leftover Blaze pizza and an adult beverage. Trying to work on lectures, but still good. So far all players looking good. 2-2 in the 3rd. Go Phils!

Luis Garcia really has a gun out there at SS. Last DP they turned was pretty nice.

Ortiz pops one up that hits the top of the wall for a 3B.

Ortiz scores on a bouncing single to left by Munoz over the drawn in infield to give the lead to the Phillies, 3-2. Phill ties hold that lead going into the bottom of the 8th.

Nice diving catch my Justin Williams in LF. I like the idea of him making the team as a backup outfielder
