I'm not sure Jimmy's wOBA would hold up to that scrutiny either. But while he was an outspoken and influential player, it really isn't his fault that neither his manager nor his general manager cared about such things. Heck neither did the Phillies this past season.
we may need to rename this thread
Squire has a point!
It was a natural drift from the discussion of Casey Martin...
Well then let's go back to Steve Potter's daily reports:
Darrick Hall keeps popping up in these reports...would be nice to see him make more consistent contact--his exit speeds have always been good.
I've always thought he could be a big league contributor if they accept he's not a starter and deployed him to his strengths. I suppose getting him enough plate appearances to keep him sharp may be an issue, but teams like the dodgers move guys up and down all the time give them rest or get them work.
I mean this is basically our only thread right now!
If one thinks Jhailyn Ortiz is a big guy, check out this player from Mississippi State. 6'4" 315 defensive tackle on their football team playing two sports. FYI I know there is not a great place to put this since he is not a real draft candidate so might as well put Spring baseball stuff here.
Mick Abel interview:
A lot of that pitcher speak was Greek to me, but it sounds like he is very much into the data and mechanics of his pitches and the caches havenāt messed much with wat was a pretty good foundation from his high school coach.
He might have a shot with the DH, Hall LH, with Harper the only other LH power bat (Realmuto, Hoskins, Bohm, Stott, Segura, don't count Gregorius).
I think the funniest thing is his explanation of why he didn't throw changeups in HS, they might close their eyes and hit it.
Well, until they sign Schwarber. And Freddie Freeman
And I think you do have to count Gregorius - while I'd love to see him packed off the roster it's also more likely he hits a little bit again and sees time at DH than SS (though it's also unlikely Stott is the Opening Day SS IMO).
Alexeis Azuaje can certainly hit. Probably not a SS but it would be nice if his defense is at least average at 2B.
When he was signed he was lauded for double-plus speed. I gather he's not that anymore. But my kingdom for an international signing who can actually hit!
And in my head I can hear Harry Kalas calling his name (like he made Mickey Morandini an exciting call).
His name has six letters, four vowels and four syllables. Kinda cool.
Here's a feel-good update: Daniel Brito was cleared by doctors to attend Phillies minor-league spring training as he continues his rehab from two brain surgeries. He'll be in Clearwater next week. Pretty amazing: https://t.co/2a5iFo9gJy ā Matt Gelb ( @MattGelb ) March 2, 2022

Ironically, if that hadn't happened he might be locked out. But great news.
Jeff Singer interview. Some thoughts about the minor league changes:
