Hoskins and Schwarber are basically the whole team right now. Doesn't mean you don't trade Rhys in the off-season. Then you desperately need Castellanos to bounce back.
But next year is next year - there is literally not one IF on the current team who might be here next year at the same position. Or they all might, who knows!
There are no lack of pitchers out there. Athletic story started listing them (they assume Castillo and Montas aren't gettable).
Cincinnati’s Tyler Mahle has extreme home-road splits and would benefit from a new home. But he has above-average stuff and another year of club control. There is robust interest in Mahle across the sport. The Reds are said to have put a high price tag on Mahle; it might require surrendering a top prospect.
The Phillies could lower the bar and target those who profile more as back-of-the-rotation pitchers. Arizona’s Merrill Kelly is solid and under contract for 2023, but it is unclear whether the Diamondbacks are even shopping him. They signed Kelly to an extension before this season. He’s durable and cheap.
There’s Jordan Lyles in Baltimore, although the Orioles have played better than expected and might want to retain Lyles because his contract includes an $11 million team option for 2023. Noah Syndergaard could be available as a rental, although he has not started a game this season on regular rest — the Angels designed their rotation to give him and others at least one and, usually, two extra days of rest — so it might not fit. José Quintana is a veteran lefty who has kept the ball in the ballpark this season and Pittsburgh might take a lottery-ticket A-ball arm for him. But Quintana will draw interest from numerous teams.
Chad Kuhl isn’t striking out a lot of batters in Colorado, but he fits the prototype of a pitcher the Phillies have had success with before.
