Falter went 6 on the 25th so he'd be lined up for either.

Yeah obviously a pitcher will have to come up. Hopefully - hard to say given how unclear things were up until this point - Eflin's injury is truly separate from his other knee issues, and not serious.

I'm beginning to wonder if Apel is ever going to pitch in a game. It's strange that Thomson is bending over backwards to give Moniak and Stott chances but Apel has yet to pitch in a game.

Salisbury is reporting that Phillies are calling up Darick Hall

I guess the Moniak leash was short. Hall is strictly a platoon player so we'll see him only against RHP rotating DH/1B with Hoskins.

Hall has annually led Phillies farmhands in exit velocities, but he'll only face RHP in majors. He plays one position, which is manned by Rhys Hoskins, so they're probably going back to Nick Castellanos in RF vs. RHP. Leaning into chaos and, well, there are no dumb ideas. https://t.co/WCqeHVhV9a

Really glad we’ll get to see what Hall can do- I was beginning to think he’d never get a shot with them.

Moniak has reached a point in his development where he is finally hitting up to expectations in the minors- that should merit getting some extended time to take his lumps in the big leagues if they think he’s got it in him to be a good big leaguer, otherwise giving him a 2 week leash up is pointless.

We are about to find out whether Bryce is 6 weeks (optimistic) or 8 weeks (more likely). Bryce will need a couple of DH games in the minors whenever he is ready also, so moving him to the 60 is a real possibility even if they want to avoid doing it as long as they can.

My guess is they move Nick Maton to the 60-day IL. When he went down (shoulder sprain), the original hope was that he would be day-to-day; then they put him on the 10-day IL, effective June 4. He's still there, and not on rehab assignment anywhere. Moving him to the 60-day IL would keep him unavailable until August 3. We're halfway there already. If he's able before the end of the 60 days, he could start rehabbing in Florida even before a formal rehab assignment.

They could also just DFA Michael Kelly. But even fungible arms are at a premium I guess. They also might be saving that move for when Brogdon comes back and Appel officially takes the spot.

I think Maton is in Clearwater and expected to play shortly. Frankly he makes more sense than Stott now given that he is a left-handed bat. I think they probably DFA Munoz and then see if Stott plays better in the next week or two before Maton is ready.

oh right, if they DFA rather than option Munoz that opens the space for Falter short-term and Brogdon long-term. Of course if that's the plan you could just do that today and keep Moniak around for a few more days.

Bryce says he wants to be back August 14. I don't think they will take the possibility off the table.

You just aren't going to play Hall and Herrera and Moniak in the same lineup. We still want Hoskins and Castellanos in there somewhere. Mediocre Castellanos is better than any version of Moniak. And frankly I think they should consider getting Vierling starts against RHP too since he is the one bench option actually hitting now. Mercado might also be the best defender of any of these options.

For sure. But it might be more likely that Moniak gets into a game as a defensive sub or PR than Munoz. Either way we are probably only talking two games (before the Falter transaction).

If not sooner, would still be nice to see an impact move by next week. Get help for the four important road games against St. Louis as well as a vaccinated body for Toronto. But striking two weeks early could cost.

To make room for Hall on the 26-man roster, INF Johan Camargo was placed on the 10-day IL (retro to 6/26) with a right knee strain. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP James McArthur was recalled and placed on the 60-day IL with a right elbow stress reaction.
